I dont know this for sure, but this is my theory; to get over the memories of negative events, you must create positive events that are as good as the bad ones were bad. Its hard to think of an example, but say on a scale of 1 to 10 the bad thing that happened was about 6, then to eliminate that mental scar something good would have to happen which was at least 6 or above on the positve scale. Sounds a bit funky but maybe you can grasp that. Go on a journey of positivity and discover new passions, places and people! Or maybe im talking cr*p...

For the most part you wouldn't want to do this. (If you're not sure about this, see The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.) Not to mention, modern technology is much cruder and we're not very good at "erasing" specific memories. ECT and certain kinds of drug use can cause memory loss...but doing this FOR the memory loss as the primary effect is a bit like doing brain surgery on yourself with a hammer.

However, there are a wide arrary of theraputic techniques that can be used to lessen the impact of negative memories and the way in which you process them. The right one for you, depends pretty much entirely on your circumstances, the type of memory, and how you're handling in now. You need to find a good therapist to work with you on this.

Do you really want to destroy memories? Memories are the only things that make us know who we are. They are how we learn, how we gain experience, knowledge and wisdom, and what shape our personality.

It can be very hard, however, to cope with memories that are painful. Many people harm themselves because of their inability to cope with the "phantoms" haunting them, memories of horrible events in their lives, of hurtful things that have been done to them, or of regretful things they themselves have done.

With time, one can put those kind of memories in context and not be consumed by them any longer. Bad memories can still be evoked years later, by the right smell, or song for example. But as time goes by we can override their pain with other more pleasant memories.

Confronting the source of the pain might help in some cases. Talk to friends or parents about it, or if you can't confide in them, to a professional. Please don't do anything that can hurt yourself! It will get easier, of that you can be sure.

You can't destroy the images, but over time you should learn to deal with those images, place them in context and the significance of the event will fade. Depending on the severity of the experience and your ability to deal with it and move on, it could take a lifetime to be rid of the memory.

The only sure fire way, is to ask God, through His Son, Jesus, to help you forgive the people who caused those bad events or feelings...Their divine intervention, somehow takes the bad memories away,....let Them have revenge...you can find the strength then to move on, believe me, it is the only way I can function...forgive, truly, and forget..

Only time, however it depends on how serious your bad memories are. Sometimes they are there for life you have to just learn hoew to deal with this. Talking to professionals maybe that will help. Of coarse, you have to have money to do this, and like alot of us we do not have insurance. Sometimes easier said than done.

Think about what you learnt from that experience.
Bad memories use to get me down until one day I thought, I'm waisting my life thinking about the bad stuff that has made me who I am today.
I have promised myself to learn from my mistakes or from others
