I would go to another Restore Point that was created before your most recent attempt. For example, if you tried to restore it to 3-20-07 and it was unsuccessful, then try an earlier date until it does restore.
If that still doesn't result in a restoration, then you should consider removing programs that did not come with your computer, and then try to restore again. Also, your internet security program could be in the way. Rather than removing that, log off the Internet, disable the software and try a System Restore once again.
If you are still unsuccessful, then there is the ultimate restore called System Recovery. Before you perform that, back up all your files to disk, because a System Recovery will return the pc to its factory shipped settings. Anything you put on the computer will be wiped clean. To do that, click on Start, then click on Turn Off Computer, then select Restart. When your system is getting ready to restart, it will display a black and white screen. At the bottom it will show a bunch of "F-key" prompts. The key for System Recovery is either F10 or F11.
A System Recovery is the last resort. Try the suggestions listed ahead of that.

Sometimes the System Restore feature in Windows gets corrupted...from not enough alloted space to hold restore points or through the OS itself....System restore is helpful but at times it just doesn't work well...and if you do alot of installs of programs, upgrades, updates or what have you...that makes problems for Restore as well.....What I would do if you can't find a good restore point use the software that came with your computer...most manufacturers have restore cd's for you or they install a partition on your hard drive with the restore info on it! If you have a cpoy of your OS (Windows I take it) than just put that in the drive and when you restart, choose a clean install and format the drive with the cd!

Choose a date which was backed up by your PC.. I think the date will be different than others with a mark.. Just choose this date and it will be restored to that point..

Try a different date because something could be corrupt with that restore date or Windows could be corrupt.
Why do you need to do a restore?

What your computer is saying is this:
1. Your system restore is corrupt, or it's infected with malware.
2. You just need to reinstall your OS (operating system)
------------------------
***NOTE: THESE STEPS WILL DELETE ALL INFORMATION ON YOUR COMPUTER AND RETURN IT BACK TO ITS FACTORY STATE!! PROCEED ONLY IF YOU HAVE MADE BACKUP CD'S!!!***
-----------------------
IF YOU HAVE A HP OR COMPAQ:
To reinstall your OS, turn off your computer. Turn it on and press F11 as soon as you push the button. Wait for system restore to load. Press the advanced button. Select Destructive Recovery. Click proceed. The computer will tell you that it's formatting your hardrive, and then it'll tell you that it's restoring original settings.
That's all you have to do! :-)
