They are now saying that vaccs only need to be given every 3 years. At his age, he would have already built up an immunity to these diseases having been vaccinated all his life. I really wouldnt think its necessary. Good on your vet for telling you that also, many vets wouldnt have, they would just keep on making the money.

Your vet is very correct. Your vet is up on the current protocol that says NO dog should be getting yearly vacciantions.
Go to the AAHA site or to Dr.Jean Dodds site for more vaccine info. Also if you can get the November 2006 issue of the WHOLE DOG JOURNAL.It has a great easy to understand article on vaccination.

The vets presumably know about these things. If you want to know more there are websites you can go to and ask about this as well for example www.purinaone.com. You can also google this topic and read for yourself. I do know that you can't overdo on these shots as some might not be needed by the animal and it will just have untoward side effects on them. I read about these required shots and what they do before I brought my cat to the vet.

Yes and no. Your vet would probably say yes b/c most are $$ hungry. Rabies is a must! There are 3yr vaccines though. Distemper is debateable. Does your dog get kenneled, or groomed? If so, then yes, most places require up to date vaccines. If your dog stays inside all the time and is carried around everywhere and not exposed to other animals, then no.

Your dog has not needed annual shots in years!
Shots are good for many, many years. Read this site from Wisconsin University.

No but he still needs to be seen by the vet every year so that they can check him over and make sure he's doing ok.
