The RACT recommend 8 to 10 years but I don't know of many children in this age group still using one, just wondering what other peoples opinions are.

Here's the "law" in most states, 4'9" and/or 80lbs. The reasons behind that is for proper fit of the safety belts and possibility of injury for seat belt not fitting properly could be devastating to you and your child. It should be kept in mind when deciding what to do with your child and helping them make good choices in regards to safety. Emotionally it could be a little awkward for a child of 10 to still be sitting in a booster seat.

Now with that said and the laws that are now in place, I would of had to been seated in a booster seat when I was 16 yrs old. I was 4'8" and 76 lbs at 16. I did have a growth spurt since then, but I can't imagine how awkward I would of felt if a police officer said I should have a booster seat at 16.

Our state law mandates that when a child reachs 65 pounds or 4 feet 4 inches they don't have to use boosters any more but until then they need one. I say that is nuts because my daughter is 4 and weighs 71 pounds and I still insist that she uses it.

In my day, they didn't have booster seats except in restaurants. My daughter's kids are 4 & 6 and she is still using them. Good luck!!!
