i have seen people get counseling for food issues, mostly because their problems made them over eat. They would eat and eat because they couldn' t face their problems, food is comforting for some people. Most of the people that i know is in counseling but still have lots of eating problems. Start with counseling and look on the internet for resouces, free exercise and health clubs online, or anything that may help you with food. I used to be a binge eater, i have it under control, without the use of medications. I had to research the net, for what seemed like forever and found a few good websites. Try hypnosis, body rubs, or try to do things to forget about food or to think about food. I don't know your situation, but maybe some health websites may help. I got a weight pen pal on the internet, we both have taken off 50lbs in the last 3 months, we exchange pictures, weight logs, and receipes. Good luck. Remember you eat to live, not live to eat.

hi,
I am currently seeing a counsellor initially because of an eating disorder..i had been depressed in the past and have afew other issues. There is different types of counselling and therapy's available and it can depend on yoru situation. Look at the website www.b-eat.co.uk as it lists places of counselling or therapy for disordered eating! You can also get CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy) whereby your trained out of your negitive thoughts regarding food and replace them with positive ones......there are many methods that can help with food, I have been talking to my counsellor about it...you just have to find the one that meets your needs.
At the moment I am just seeing a normal counsellor...she's not especially trained specifically in eating disorders...I found it very daunting asking for help and talking to a stranger, still do at times but she has been able to help me see things in a different light and it's great to have the support of someone outside of friends and family...and also someone who is trained to help me explore my emotions!
With disordered eating there is often issues behind it...not always but counselling can help..i would recommend it, especially if you feel it is getting you down!
The other alternative is seeing your GP, who could be the right first port of call as he/she can then refer you to counsellors..or at least let you know of available services!
Best of luck! x

Counseling only helped me with educating me with my food issues and identify problems I have with eating while bored or stressed. It was up to me to decide to try to change this behavior. Hope this helps.
