I'm currently deployed in Iraq right now. I'm thinking of re-enlisting but also reclassing. I really want Europe whether its Germany, Italy, Netherlands, or wherever. Anyone in any of these places?

Since you didn't specify service branch, it's kind of hard to throw out a specific answer. If you're Army, you've got Germany or Italy.

In case you haven't been to the Retention NCO for your BN or BDE yet, you can't reclass and choose your duty assignment at the same time. And no, you can't have "whatever you want". It's one or the other, and this is assuming you're on your first re-enlistment and have reclass as an option. If you reclass, you are Needs of the Army as far as duty stations go. You're going to have to goto an AIT for your reclass, and that can be anywhere from 6 weeks to a year (not counting the time it will take for you to clear post). No slot can be held that long without being filled.

I'm going to put my foot in the water and say it is probably the same for every other service branch as far as enlisted assignments go. Reclass sucks up a lot of time, and when duty positions need to be filled, they get filled as soon as possible. Your best bet is to get your reclass and then call your Branch Manager right before graduation and your orders are cut. If you can call ahead to a unit at your desired duty station and they have slots for your rank and MOS, you may be able to work out a deal where you get a Letter of Acceptance and can take that to the Branch Manager.

The kicker is also that if you're re-upping from Iraq and choose to reclass, you won't get the tax-free bonus; you don't get any kind of bonus until you've completed your AIT training and been assigned to a new unit. If your current MOS isn't that much of a burden, just re-up for the optimum mix of bonus and longevity (usually 3-4 years) and ask for a duty station in Europe. Be careful though and check the BRAC list. You don't want to end up with an outfit that is scheduled to move to CONUS in the next few years on a duty station that is to be shut down (think of 1st Armored).

Good luck to you.

We are stationed in Germany and I don't know of any MOS that is here more than another.

I know to go to Italy you almost have to be Airborne.
It depends on where in Germany you go. Where we are there are alot of MPs and medical MOSs.

Stay safe and good luck with the re enlistment and reclassing.

nicely, they are 50/50. i replaced into fortunate, my first duty station replaced into Vilseck, Germany with the seventh military blended palms preparation Command (7ACATC). They later replaced to the 281st Base help Battalion. i don't know in the event that they are nevertheless around anymore because of the fact they have been deactivating an excellent variety of instruments in basic terms before 9/11. definitely, it particularly is a toss up. i don't know how issues are actually, yet are you able to put in workers request sort to get Korea as your first duty station? i don't know if there's a time-physique to be at your cutting-edge duty station previously you may make a request, yet you ought to have a minimum of 13 months left in provider to make a request to bypass everywhere else. in case you're nevertheless a trainee (AIT), it particularly is a sprint harder than that. talk on your Senior Drill and see what they say.

Re-enlist for Germany. If that doesn't work call your branch manager. If this is your first re-enlistment you can have what ever you want.
