People complain about drivers hogging the middle lane of the motorway and I agree, they are a nuisance.I find, however that the ones staying in the outside lane are much worse. At least you have the option of overtaking the pootlers in the middle lane but in the UK it is illegal to undertake (why?)..so you ,and a snake of drivers behind you are held up by a bloody minded
so and so who will neither speed up or move over.
If he/she doesn't like driving quickly, fair enough..STAY IN THE INSIDE LANE.

Mummy p..hoggers CAUSE more accidents than they prevent...
why can't you stay in the inside lane if you like pootling so much...that's what I can't understand.Leave the law enforcement to the police.

bennyona..that's my point..you CAN'T pass them on the inside.. the stupid law (one of many) in the UK says you are not allowed to.

Yesterday i was following a Navaro 4wd in the outside lane of the M1 for miles, he wouldn't move over and let me past, although it was very busy he did have the opportunity.
The guy in front of me had undertook him through frustration so you can see why accidents happen
If they want to sit in a lane then that's one thing, but why don't they just move over and let people past?
It's lazy, inconsiderate and even dangerous.

I can't speak for other places, but because there's so much traffic entering and exiting from the far right lane (in the U.S.), drivers here in Washington are supposed to stay in the middle lane most of the time. The left lane is for passing, so vehicles moving slower than the general traffic flow are not allowed to drive there. That doesn't leave many options when you're on a highway with only three lanes! If you're on a two-lane road, then the right lane is for the slower drivers, and the left lane is for passing. I suppose if you're in the UK, then you'll need to think opposite of what I've mentioned for it to make sense in terms of right and left :-)

Both!!!!! They are just as bad as each other.......
I drive to work every morning on a 2 lane motorway, and I have to admit, I sit in the inside lane and undertake all the impatient drivers who sit in the outside lane because they think they should be moving faster.......this is legal, as it is classed as conjested traffic and I am merely keeping up with the traffic speed in my lane.
I have to say though, the outside lane hoggers do tend to be the worst, and they always seem to slow down to 67 mph when they are overtaking a long line of traffic......ggggrrrrrrrrr

The hightway code states "242: Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake. In congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right. In these conditions you may keep up with the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right. Do not weave in and out of lanes to overtake." - Basically saying you can't "Undertake" but if the traffic in the left hand lane is going quicker then you can use it!! To answer your question though - Both!!! They ALL need to remember the rule of staying in the left hand lane unless overtaking. Believe it or not that lane isn't just for lorries

Middle lane is worse. At least with an outer lane hogger you can pass them on the inside lane without too much trouble. With middle laners you have no idea if they're going to change lanes as you try and pass them.
Undertaking should be made illegal in Australia anyway. It's safer that way, at least you know what other people are more likely to do.

Wow is you name really roadhog?
But i know what you mean, it is frustrating to have someone in the outer fast lane who is going the same speed as the car in the middle lane, don't these people realise we have to get somewhere.
Why can't we undertake, because the law say's so, and i think it has to do with the fact that in the UK we drive on the left hand side and have to give way to drivers on the right of us, in the countries that drive on the right hand side they would have to give way to drivers on their left, so they can not over take on their right.

I guess I am one of the people who complain about middle lane hoggers! I tend not to venture in the outside lane much, as I always get the '90mph +' crowd up my backside!
So I will do what you say ans keep my big butt in the inside lane, yessir!!

i agree. it's irritating... and i wish undertaking was legal! i know my car doenst have that much power, so i stay in the inside lane, and if i do overtake, get back in asap! i also think lorries should have to stay in the inside lane, because more often than not, the queues are caused by one lorry overtaking another at the same speed! ok, rant over.

only reason undertaking is illegal is because 99% of drivers never look in nearside mirror!!
I ride a motorbike as well as drive a car and i hate people that straddle the lines so who knows what lane they are in or what the next manoeuvre could be

I usually find the overtakers are breaking the speed limit anyway,so the hoggers are preventing others from getting a ticket or causing an accident. Everyone has the right to drive on a road,i find speeders more irritating than hoggers.
