Can anyone tell me if there are tell tell signs that a female dog has previously had a litter.
I have recently rescued a jackrussell/spaniel cross (2 years old) and wanted to know if there is a way that you can tell as
we have no records of her past.

She has hard large formed nipples.

The best way to tell is by her nipples, once a b1tch has had a litter, her nipples remain larger & more prominent than before. Her vulva will also be slightly larger than in dog who has not had a litter. Has she been spayed? If not & you are planning to get her spayed, ask the vet to check when she is neutered.

your best option when aquiring a new dog is to get a health check anyway to make sure she is all ok. A vet will be the best for giving advice but sometims you can tell if there belly is generally a little saggy and not tight as they should be, also their teets will be more formed if they have had a litter!

If you got your dog from a reputable rescue shelter they should have given her a check over before rehoming her in which case they may be able to tell you - otherwise take her to a vet and get her checked over.

Oh, what a good question. Yes there is but I can't remember! Something to do with nipples and width of pelvis, but as above, your vet is the best person to tell you.

A vet may be able to tell (they are the experts we are meant to take our pets to) but in any case, get it spayed
