If you have a hard case, go ahead and latch it and check it -- TSA will assist with that (you can't "lock" it but they can tape it shut to be extra safe and have other ideas--they've done it before.
If you don't have a hard case, many airliens will allow it as a carry-on as space allows. Ask at the gate when you check in, or call ahead to the airline before you get to the airport.

Don't know about Easyjet but I took a guitar on an Alitalia flight as hand luggage and it was ok.

Easyjet will accept it as checked baggage. It must be loaded at the oversize baggage belt near check-in, or you can keep hold of it until you get to the gate - it will then be hand-loaded into a baggage hold on the airplane. You can either retrieve it from the baggage belt or in exceptional circumstances, at the bottom of the airplane steps.
Hope you have a flight case for it or it *may* get damaged!

No; it's a piece of luggage like anything else. Just be sure you take it in a GOOD guitar case so that it doesn't get damaged.

Hi!
My hubby has taken his guitar all over the world, and has never had a problem.
However, the guitar was in a hard case.
The cabin crew used to put it in their cupboard for him.
Hope this helps!
