You may not have enough memory to support Vista. I have just ordered a Dell 1505 laptop with Vista on it. In the upgrades, it show how much memory, etc. is needed for this dog they call Vista. You have to pay extra for the upgrade to comfortably support this new idea from microsoft. If you didn't look into the future when you bought the computer, and make sure that you had enough memory, you are probably coming up short right now.

Basically Vista keeps crashing because it's as reliable as any other Microsoft product.
On the other hand I own a Dell inspiron 1701 and I installed Vista ultimate on it , side by side with winXP . its working with no problems, but b4 installation I downloaded something called "The upgrade Advisor" off the Microsoft web site, it did a scan of my computer that showed some issues (though the Tag on the laptop said "Vista Ready". I copied the issues and went into Dells website where I had a chat conversation with their support personal (quite nice ppl) where they gave me links to download updated driver. My best advice would be to check with DELL support center at
