If your in love with them you talk to them all the time, when they are there, and in your head when they're not. You see them. in crowds, when they are not there, imagined, you figure out what TV ads they'd be good in. You look for clothes for them, everywhere. Meals are built around them. it goes on and on. Lust on the other hand is just plain exciting, you can't wait to get your hands on them. You'll do anything to bed them, take stupid risks, get an inflatable bed for your office, you'll ditch your bf/gf to get the time. It takes hours of sex to get the itch down to tolerable level, and when your alone, you forget all about them, till the next date. You buy them sexually oriented gifts. You only learn their phone# and name. It can become love, in which case, it's really gonna be one for the books, but that's not in granite. Who knows.

Lust is a deep seated need, an urge, if you will, to do something with the intent to receive a specific response. Even if that response is a feeling you get just being around someone, it's the fact that your aware of the effect and steps towards obtaining the effect and want it badly that makes it different from love. True love is unique in the fact that you cannot situationally or otherwise engineer it. Got a guy/girl that your hanging around with (or dating?) and theres some kind of emotion that goes deeper than a simple attraction? Does he/she make you feel overjoyed at times? Does that person make you smile and laugh on a regular basis? How bout making you feel like a little schoolgirl/schoolboy again? Does she/he give you the feeling that it'd hurt just to be away longer than you have to be except when independence is taken into account? If so... that aint lust or puppy love. The sheer depth of the feelings is a dead give away... it's the real deal. You can't rig it, you can't tell who it's gonna be or when they're gonna come and make you feel that special way. That's true love. It hits you like a sucker punch in slow motion.

The only difference is what you believe. The idea of romantic love is a very new one and moderners will try to distance it from lust and try to make it something else and dilute the connection.
Feelings aren't these objective discrete things that float around in our own private universes. They're just things that affect what you do.
Let me put it this way. If you lust for someone, make her/him earn your trust and then have sex with her/him.
If you romantically love someone, make her/him earn your trust and then have sex with her/him.
All problems solved.
May the wind be always at your back,

Lust is all physical. You're turned on by the way he looks and always think about him sexually. When you love someone sex is the least thing on your mind. You enjoy being with the person just because of who they are as a person and you're content with that wether sex is involved or not.

Here is how I answered this question earlier:
Lust is the hormone-driven attraction to another. It's the pure, animal form of searching for a potential partner.
Love is the emotional-driven attraction to another. It's ennobling and future seeking.
Now, if you think about it, it's pretty much impossible to have love without first experiencing lust. Here's another way I've seen it said:
"Men fight wars over lust, but make homes and families for love." :)

a difference between love and lust is that love is selfless concern for another person but lust is totally self-focused.

If you love them you would want them to be happy even if its not with you....if you feel lust for them you would beat down any ***** that comes near him. Love is selfless and lust is selfish.

If you love them you listen to them, think about them and respect them...if you lust you think about your own sexual desires....people who get angry because their partner refuses to have sex generally fall into the category of lust.
