if you are a boy and making friend ship with a girl then that girl will be called as girlfriend, similarly if you are a girl making friendship with a boy then the boy will be called as boyfriend..

ie boys are not equal to girls
substitute friends in both sides

It is so obviously the Gender. You are confused about the meaning of the friend. A friend is one who believes in you when you have ceased to believe in yourself. Everyone is a friend, until they prove otherwise.Friend is the one who knows all about you, and still likes you.
