Go to war with Iran and steal their resources. Maybe they'll think twice about any aggression in the future.
By the way what was the captain of the war ship and the helicopter which was there for backup doing when the men where being taken?

US poster... but we all feel the same our unit served with some UK soldiers
truth? if you find them they prolly would but without an exact location how do you plan on going in and getting them you cant drive around iran all day looking 2nd 12 soldiers being away from home for 3 days (if its like the last time) is it worth the risk of another war where thousands could die? in my opinion yes
but! how will all of those people marching around the streets with the peace signs complaining of the iraq war feel about it
its a political game and they will way the outcomes of every option before they decide what to do
in otherwords wait
safest thing is if they have a week of discomfort then all come home on a plane much better than losing 6 in an ugly fire fight which turns into a regional war
and our good friend russia and china what will they do?

Because if hell were to break loose w Iran, The Coalition of the Willing would be overwhelmed and outnumbered by the insurgents in Iraq joining forces w the Iranian military.
This is without mentioning that Iraq seems to be spiraling down towards civil war, imagine that w our boys in the middle.
There are 2 Air Carriers nearby to keep things on the balance w Iran, but as we all know now, there is no substitute for boots on the ground.
So diplomacy has to be given a chance to work b/c we can't afford to keep going at it without thinking of the consequences.

UK and US spy satellites will be watching the base where the Brit's are being held, may be Israel's Mos sad agents on the ground in Iran may be helping with in-tell on the where the Brit's are held. When the peaceful option doesn't work Brit special ops will start planning for a rescue, the **** will hit the fan then and show US Delta Force how its done.

Ridiculous suggestion !. In the first place we do not know where these marines are. Secondly, What iran did was fully justified under the rules of war. Then ask yourself, What were these marines doing in Iranian waters. They knew rthey were inside the 3 mile limit, Why? I think tony Blair knows the answer to that, but he's not saying anything.

To whoever said the SAS only works in the movies.. you're dead wrong.
The SAS is the most experienced Special Ops unit in the world (the only competition are the Israelis). As an American the only unit I could compare them to is our SFOD-D (Delta Force) which is our best counter-terrorism unit (yes, much better than SEALs).
If British Intelligence knew where they were and thought their lives to be in any kind of danger - you can bet your buttocks the SAS would be sent in.. zero SAS casualties and a whole mess of Iranians dead.

The British Government prefers diplomacy to going in with all guns blazing, but that doesn't mean that the guns aren't being got ready.
Remember the hostages in Eritrea a couple of weeks ago. diplomacy secured their release - but you can bet anything you like that special Forces were already deployed in the area and ready to act if required.
Orion - you're talking rubbish.

Unfortunately, the UK seems to have lost its collective will since the days of the Iron Lady.
Your military has been drastically cut from one end to the other. The Royal Navy is a shadow of what it once was (Remember your last Spanish Armada remembrance? You had to borrow ships to do it), the Royal Marines and the Army are even less than that. The RAF has also been gutted by budget cuts and a bureaucracy gone wild.
As a Yank, I mourn for your Armed Services. You Brits have always been one of our staunchest allies (along with the Ozzies, the Kiwis, and the Canucks)...We are honored and thrilled to see you helping us out in Afghanistan and Iraq, but that's stretching everything you have and beyond.
I would be surprised if your nation has enough resources and force-projection capability to mount a rescue attempt; Much less the force of will needed to do so. This is the 2nd time (at least) the Iranians have kidnapped British personnel - they know you'll do nothing. At the most, you'll write a strongly worded letter and possibly make a speech at the UN. And frankly, they don't really care about such things. More likely, you'll cut a deal and they'll get something nice out of it.
I would love to see you fight they way you used to and get your troopers back, but it 'aint gonna happen.
Orion
EDIT: For the poster below, the HMS Cornwall was out of range of her boats for support and the helicopter wasn't armed for taking out armed small-boats. Even if it had been, your sailors and Marines were outnumbered and outgunned. They got caught with their pants down, basically. Someone goofed.
2nd EDIT: Gentlemen, I meant no offense - I read your papers and from your papers and the discussions in Parliament, the UK has drastically reduced the size and capability of your military as well as the conditions under which it might be used. Wouldn't you agree to that? We ***GREATLY*** appreciate your helping us out in Iraq and Afghanistan - but with those two commitments (Go Prince Harry! That lad has class!) you folks are over-taxed. Exactly HOW would you go about getting those Sailors and Marines out of Tehran? You simply don't have the resources. With only 190,000 folks in ALL of your military, you'd be hard pressed to take on the nearly 600,000 in the Iranian military on their home turf. Especially if you factor in the nearly 1,000,000 reservists they have in Iran.
Believe me, I take a back seat to no one when it comes to my admiration and respect for the British Military. You wrote the book on Special Ops, and your history is one of courage, honor, and valor beyond words. Much of the American military is patterned on the British model from the earliest days of our country.

In reply to Orion each member of our forces are worth twice if not more of theres and we dont shoot at each other , I agree we have lack of funding etc but this small country if given the go ahead still has the balls to kick someone else , the only reason were short of troops is due to us helping americans becasuse no one else wants to know.

Got to go through all the diplomatic BS first, but I wouldn't mind betting that plans are in progress.
Don't you think is is all very convenient as an excuse to start blasting away at Iran?? If diplomacy fails.
