Since water vapor accounts for 96% to 99% of the greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, I'm not sure trying to reduce greenhouse gases is all that great an idea. The short-sightedness of some of these ideas to "fight global warming" is appalling. California is trying to force power companies to reduce CO2 emissions with no regard to the brownout and blackouts that will result if the power companies comply. Even a brownout in a large desert city like L.A. can be deadly due to loss of air conditioning and refrigeration, not to mention the cost of and smog produced by burned-out motors.

Anyone who thinks wind and solar energy are free simply hasn't priced out the equipment to produce it. In the Midwest one good hailstorm can knock out acres (hectares if you prefer) of solar panels.

Building nuclear power plants would be a good start. Unlike ground based solar or wind we can actually get a large amount of baseload power from them and we don't need to back them up for when the sun isn't shining or the wind isn't blowing. Sadly this isn't something you can do yourself but you can contribute and if fossil fuels for power generation can be removed we'd have solved about a fifth of the problem (and more than if we somehow convinced everyone to give up their car and use a two wheeled unpowered deathtrap).

On a personal level if you can put up a solar panel and get some power from it that will help but not a lot, get a smaller car if you can or a diesel (though diesels do give off more particulates) or a hybrid or convert an existing car to electric (though you'll probably want to look at where the electricity comes from because if it mostly comes from coal you may actually be increasing CO2 emissions that way). Also adjust your driving style to better conserve fuel.

Using public transport where it actually exits can help and encouraging the expansion of existing systems (or the construction of new systems) is also a good thing to do but one must not forget to also expand the road network so as to reduce the amount of time cars spend on the road idling and getting zero fuel economy.

Getting some understanding of the issues and why the denialists are wrong would also be a good idea (also make sure you know that skeptics accept the reality of global warming and that anyone who says global warming isn't happening is not a skeptic despite what they may call themselves).

EDIT: I should just add a few things which you should not do because they won't help or will actually make things worse.
* Letting your car warm up is useless and merely wastes fuel, starting the car up and driving off is a much better thing to do
* Using LPG will not help and it has significant safety problems
* Paying extra to subsides wind farms that are only used about 20% of the time (with the backup coming from coal or gas) is equivalent to supporting 80% of that backup power source so don't bother trying to get those things built, spend the effort on nuclear
* Denying that there is a problem is also something that shouldn't be done though that doesn't seem to stop some idiots
* Buying so called 'organic' food won't help much. While there is less transportation the lower yields of faith based farming also mean that there is more land required so more trees need to be sacrificed for food production using those methods. Faith based farming tends to produce inferior products anyway.

Also note that a lot of suggestions made are for stopping other environmental problems and whilst they usually should be done it should be noted that many of them won't stop global warming and may actually contribute to it (e.g. one could improve air quality in a lot of cities by replacing diesel vehicles with petrol vehicles but that would also increase CO2 emissions).

Suggestions to conserve electricity only make sense as global warming solutions when the power comes from polluting sources like coal, oil or methane (remembering that solar and wind are usually mostly coal or methane). If you're in France then conserving electricity doesn't make any sense but elsewhere it usually will help.

Well to fight Global Warming we must conserve the environment . People still don't understand the harm that can come to us if we go on cutting trees, pollute the water, pollute the air and other methods.
In order to stop Global Warming we must stop polluting the air.Due to high concentration of carbon dioxide and other gases the temperature rises and allows ice bergs and snow to melt which increases the volume of water. This can cause a big disaster to our world .

Be as energy conservative as possible meaning that you can turn off lights when you don't need them.
Turn off your computer at night- when unneeded.
Turn off any electrical items on standby that could be switched off at the power outlet.
Allow car to warm up before driving off.
Make sure tires are inflated to correct pressure.
The German Minister of Environment stated that this alone would save Germany 200 million litres (50 million gallons) of fuel every year.
Wear a sweaterer if you're cold inside.
Plant some trees- lots of small things all help.

Nothing. It's a myth.

Mapping of earth's average temperature has already shown a decreas in global temperature by 1 degree since the 1930s. If Global Warming theory was true, temperature should have increaed by about 5 degres since then (since that was when fossil fuels where burned at their greatest volume).

Realize that as many people believe that we're heading for another ice age as believe in global warming. Looking at the same data they can't decide etween hot and cold. . . that should tell you something about the "science" involved.

I am more concerned with what I can do to mitigate the effects since global warming is inevitable.

Global warming is in theory reversable, but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,

At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where.

SOLUTIONS
if you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to reverse the destructive processes

reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.

the capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.

the world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia

Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.

the protection of existing forrests.

stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.

education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.

education on environmental awareness
education on family planning to curb over´populaion

Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.

more environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks

,more dams.regulations and control for public behaviour

alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine

recicling wastes,limit water use

Absolutely nothing since we did not cause it therefore we can't stop it. You should of asked - What can you do to help stop the rain from falling? Is is just a preposterous as what you are suggesting. Man does not control nature.

Eat more beef. Cows belching methane into the air is the primary cause of ozone burn-up.
