In California, it seems to have more economic benefits, but so is slavery, back in the day. Exploiting cheap labor alway increase the economy. It doesn't mean its fairly distributed. Legal citizens income are depressed. Resources (hospitals) are stretched by the immigrants. THe rich, benefit greatly though. The question is does the positive out weigh the negatives. Its hard to put data on paper for such a hard subject. This why people here argue with instinct.

Some of my favorite immigrants: Charlie Chaplin, Stan Laurel (of Laurel and Hardy), Rupert Murdoch, Alexander Hamilton, most of my ancestors, Jim Carrey, Michael J. Fox, Ernst Lubish, Albert Einstein and those guys who built the railroads.

some I don't like who benefit the economy nonetheless: George Soros, half of Hollywood (they're all Canadians and Brits, used to be a lot of Germans)

that's the American immigrants. Without immigrants, the US would not have an economy. Brits, then Germans, saved our cinema, and they continue to bring in a lot of skills, money and ideas. Now even Australians are bringing the money in.

Look at the IT industry, or any other highly skilled area, and you'll find Asians and Europeans working to keep America rich. You'll find American bosses (and some foreign ones).

There are countries like Japan and Germany that raise the majority of their own inventors and entrepreneurs. Our freedom attracts many of them, even if their (perhaps better) schools, values and parents breed them.

A nice tv documentary called mongrol nation gives you the facts. Succesful nations have large immigrant population.
The UK is a prime example. I believe most new successful companies and inventions and culture will come from the immigrant population in the next 50 years. What is the No 1 dish in uk - curry.
Another good example is the philippines, the 'natives' have little effect on the economy, the immigrant Chinese are the successful business owners, and not just recently but going back maybe 100's of years.
Why did Hitler hate the Jews, they were excellent business people and immigrants.
So to sum it up, your countries wealth and economy is more because you have immigrants and not because the native population are so brilliant - like most people fall into the trap of thinking this way. America will always be no 1 until it closes it doors then it will decline.

Legal immigrants do and maybe even a small percentage of illegals. Illegals do not. They cost more than they could ever put in. Maybe it benefits those who are making money on the stock market because of the huge revenues....but for real people living....no. How can poverty benefit an economy?

The British Government is rubbing it`s hands with glee as the European Community take our jobs at a cut price rate knowing full well that there is nothing we can do about it short of having a revolution!.English in olden days when the spirit was instilled in us would, do anything for next to nothing but a Government that ruins all that we have built up over the past 50 years in a quarter of that time & will only be remember for things like Cash for questions, bought Knighthoods, getting rid of all our Industry taxing the poor & middle England to the hilt, then expecting us to vote for another suicidal four years? You must be Joking it is going to take Years to put right what this Government & Brussels & the european country people have done to our England. The sooner we get some sort of sensible government back in power the sooner we can make a start to get our country back on it`s feet.

it depends on the immigrant.
This word is too vague.

For example, people say that they work and so benefit the economy, but the governments own statistics states clearly that immigrants from the Muslim faith are mostly likely to be unemployed than any other group.

So which is it?

Legal immigrants benefit our economy because for the most part they are honest hardworking people.

ILLEGAL immigrants (aliens) are the trash of the world who care only for themselves and suck the USA economy of everything they can with little return.

They are criminals and should be treated as such.

Legal immigrants do, but our laws are slanted to make that so, like the immigration laws of every country. Illegal immigrants, overall, are a net economic loss, not even counting the overcrowded schools etc.

One of the guys who developed google was an immigrant. Guys like that really impact the legal immigrant group statistics.

It is questionable, the honest immigrants work hard and ask for nothing they aren't owed.

However a lot of them are not honest, immigrants are responsible for 90% of the illegal sex trade, 60% of the narcotic import business (drug smuggling), and also show a low regard for life, (An example of this is the brutal murder of an Albanian man who deceived his friends out of £100, and was subsequently executed by them).
