i have wore my braces abt 10 yrs ago. At that time, my orthodontist suggested me to go for the jaw surgery due to protruded upper jaw. However, due to young age, my parents rejected.
but now, i thinking to do the surgery. My question is can i jus go and see a oral & maxillofacial doctor or must i wear a braces so i can have the surgery done?

I done my braces in a teaching hospital. My orthodontist has already graduated and i cant remember who she is now..

it depends what exactly needs to be done.
if its a jaw problem then you might be able to skip the braces.but sometimes braces actually work to correct some jaw things. No one on Yahoo answers knows your situation though and no one can physically see your teeth so its probably not the best thing to be looking for advice on here. Try seeing a new orthodontist if your's isn't there. It doesnt have to be the same person afterall all they have to do is a few X-rays and examinations and they'll know what to do, its they're job

It relies upon on how crooked your enamel are, how nicely you do each and every thing your orthodontist tells you (like weraing your elastics, lacking appointments, breaking brackets, and so on.) that's everywhere from a million-6 years, or perhaps longer than that. the widely used is approximately 2-3 years, even even though it certainly relies upon on you! or perhaps while your braces come off, it keeps with the retainers. many times the 1st 6 months to a million year, you could desire to placed on them 24/7. After that, in basic terms at night. and finally, some nights each and every week. desire your adventure isnt too undesirable, merely delight on your smile while they arrive off, and be certain to placed on your retainers as directed.
