It's not a feeling. It's a reality. They are actually able to tune us out altogether.
I make a point of getting my husband to look at me and repeat my last sentence when I know that he's drifting out of the conversation.
I loudly say that I'm not talking to myself that I am talking to him and that I make a point of listening to him, even if I'm not always interested either.
If that doesn't help start doing the same in return... he'll get the messge. When you have something more interesting then what they are saying to do they really get thier little egos bruised. They think they are the most important thing in the world to us and are crushed if we don't have the time or interest to hear them.
good luck.

You know something, that is a common problem in most relationships. I've been married for 20 yrs., and yes I have this feeling as well, and not because my husb. is a jerk or any thing like that. We women, think completely different than men do. In fact, if we are just venting, they aren't listening but are wondering how they can "fix it" or get the wrong idea completely! No you aren't talking too much, and you CAN bring his attention back to you by just asking him if he is listening, and make it light and funny when you ask him, and if he is any kind of man, he will admit that he wasn't listening, and then you usually can get his full attention when you bring it to his attention that he isn't listening to you. But if you are angry, sarcastic when you ask him this, he will shut you out and you will never get him to listen then. If nothing else, start writing notes to him. That will get his attention, and when he asks why you are just writing him notes, tell him why, because I felt like you wasn't listening to me, and i needed to have you know what I wrote in those notes. Send him an email! He'll read it then!

What do you talk about? Maybe talk to him about something he's interested in?
If a girl drones on about hair, nails, soaps, menstral cramps, whatever; guys usually do tune out
And there is such a thing as talking too much, guys get shot down for it on dates all the time. Quid pro quo..

Yeah.. I know what you mean! The worst is when they go to sleep on the other line.. Or say "You were talking to me?" Usually I go on and say something like "I kissed _______ last night, it was really good" and insert an exboyfriend or someone he hates in the blank! Really works!! Lol..

I don't get the feeling., . . I know that he is not listening. That is ok, because I just ignore him back. . .
