Yes - its sort of true. Hair has a life cycle. It grows for a number of years and then falls out and is replaced by a new hair growing from the same root (everyone sheds hair, but we don't all end up bald in old age). Typically, the hair cycle is around 5 to 8 years, so, if your hair grows at an average of 6 inches a year, it will be hard to grow hair longer that three or four feet. However, growth rate and hair cycles vary for different hairs on the head and for different people. Thats why untrimmed hair evenually "tapers" to a terminal length and why some women can grow their hair to the floor. If your hair is still thick through the whole length, its a good indication that you can grow it much longer.

The better you take care of it, the longer it will grow. Havent you seen the women on TV with their hair draggin on the floor? One girl tried out for American Idol, her mother's hair was just as long. I just dont think anyone has lived long enough to find out exactly how long it will grow. The only way we will really know is if someone is willing to do something from the time are very small til they get old. But how many people do you know like that?

All people who grow their hair long will hit a plateu. It's natural. It's like your hair stops growing, but it doesn't. It just grows at a slower rate. When you have short hair, it has nothing to pull and tug at it, it can grow freely. When your hair is longer there is a lot of gravity on it, and it grows a bit slower.

Keep it healthy, condition well and DO NOT shampoo every time you shower. Your scalp's natural oils will keep your hair healthy. Comb your hair, don't brush it. This minimizes strand breakage.

I don't know the scientific answer... But I personally think that hair grows HEALTHILY only to a certain length. I think most people's hair can grow indefinately long, but after a certain length, the hair is no longer healthy looking/feeling hair.

it depends on your hair type. for some people with fine brittle hair, they have to keep it very short to avoid split ends. although if you use a deep conditioner like Aussie minute miracle, you can really help keep your hair healthy and strong, this will keep it from breaking off.
