because best is a personal word, please redefine your definition. quickbooks is ideal for many due to it's business oriented nature but requires time and training to get good at. microsoft money/quicken allow you to get the basics out of an accounting program because of their quick wizardry and peachtree is used for some large organizations due to the ability to run reports, and it's long-standing backing as providing financial software for the computer industry. try 'em all and see which is going to be the best for your needs.

Get any version of Peachtree between 2002 and 2012 used on ebay. BUT. It has to come with the serial #, the registration # and the customer # already with it. Do not get any brand new versions unless you want to pay around $300 per year to keep it running (mandatory support plan required). Absolutely do NOT get quickbooks. It has a flawed data base that is non-standard, proprietary, quirky and does not play well with other data bases. It will eventually give you problems. Just search "I hate quickbooks" for some stories. Peachtree (before 2013) is the best. If you are totally broke and can't afford anything then download "gnucash" for free.

it depends on what you're looking at one for. If it's for a small business, probably quick books would be the best. We use Quicken at home and my wife, who's a business manager, seems to like it and it's reporting features.
