Do you ever miss how you were pre-treatment? I'm finally stable and fully functional after years of toying with medications and it's great, but I also find myself almost wishing I was still like I was pre-medication. Am I the only one?

No, I've heard it's common. I'm depressed and thank god medication works for me however.

Example for ?-My mother (who suffers from Bi-polar disorder, deep depression and anxiety disorders) misses her care-free past. My mom used to be this fun-loving, wild, happy person (except when in depressive state of course) but tells me all the time she wished she felt the way she did before being successfully medicated, but is overall more stable and content than she ever was. She says she used to just be able to tap into her creativity, but now, she has no more, no zest for life really. She even says she doesn't know who she is anymore, she feels like her disorders have defined her in some way.

Successfully medicating a person w/ mental disabilities/disorders, can literally change their personality, thoughts, disposition, etc.

I was diagnosed being bipolar in the early '90's, and yes I miss the "highs" and being "indestructible," and that is why we bipolars go off the meds. Being stable isn't normal for us. We feel like we are in slow motion, and it doesn't feel right. So we go off the meds, forgetting what it was like when we crashed after a high, or how dangerous our highs were for us, from doing stupid and careless things, spending money that we really didn't have, abusing alcohol, and being promiscuous. So yes, I miss those days, but is all I have to do is remember some of the bad highs I had, and the crashes.

No way. My life was really messed up before I was properly medicated. They thought I had anxiety disorder and I really have bipolar disorder. It took ten years to fix the problem. I wouldn't visit the years without medication for a million dollars.

No, it's normal. Why? Well you see, a lot of these 'illnesses' are not really 'illnesses' at all eg. bipolar II You're not stable. You are just more passive and apathetic about what's going on around you. The treatment makes you less of a problem to those around you, but ultimately you are betraying your self.

seriously. I've been crazy most of my life. infact I still
am right now. i just been through so much that I was
left for dead. I trained myself mentally. No medication
involved. my mom and the school I went to at the time
wouldn't put me in one plus I was and still am suicidal
as hell. one of these days i'm going to blow my brains
out but i'm going to get mighty drunk first and kill atleast
one person. good luck with your psycho pills!
