I am the owner of a Mastiff and a Great Dane, If you buy your mastiff from a reputable breeder they will have their first shots, be dewormed, vet checked, and come with a health guarantee. The dew claws are not always removed unless they are loose and then they can snag/rip and hurt the dog. If you do not buy from a good breeder just know that the mastiff breed when not bred properly is prone to many MANY health problems, Skin problems, food allergies, bad hips and joints, bad eyes. Food for thought....My mastiff is a rescue dog with skin problems and food allergies. His special diet costs about 200.00 a month, plus vitamin supplements. When the weather gets warm and he gets a hot spot the vet trip and medicine is 300.00. You can try to save a few dollars and buy from a backyard breeder and spend 800-900 on the dog now but it will end up costing you thousands more in the end.

From a breeder I would definitely demand:
vet check
first shots
health guarnatee
dewormed (sure, why not)
I would never NEVER EVER have a dog (or an animal) declawed Cruelty x100.

Along with those make sure you can see the parents or at least mama, have a good repore with the breeder. Contact often, make an unannounced visit. Genetic reports on mama and dad (defects etc.) would be wonderful if purebred.
Also, does the breed include follow up or possibly even training. Some have year or longer health guarantees (ie if your dog gets sick they are held responsible for bills or they take them back.) A good breeder if your getting a purebred will require you to sign a commitment to have it spayed or neutered (so you don't breed it) or an agreed upon time for breeding (maybe even to breed back with breeder).
Anyway there is lots to think about and soooo many shifty
characters out there, unfortunately you have to be "buyer beware". Research Research, and go in there like you totally know what you want and how. If you don't like the response or
the conditions or anything, go with your gut and find your new puppy some where else.

Good Luck!!! Mastiffs are SO! Great, I just love them!

I do not think you mean declaw as in all the claws removed? It is common to remove the dew claw from dogs, as it most often is a problem for the dog, but only because it isn't down on the pad, and never gets worn as does the regular claws.
With any largre breed dog, I would want it vet checked. Most large breeds can suffer from problems with hips, while I am not familur with masstiffs, I would definately look for a vet with an interest in the breed. Also check with any clubs that cater to mastiffs, they will have a list of things to check out.

The puppy should definatley be wormed, vet checked and have had its first round of shots. There is no reason why you should 'demand' to have the puppy declawed - what is the point of having a dog and having it declawed. A dog uses it claws to get traction - you remove them and it has no way of getting traction. And please do not say that you are getting declawed as you have children - that is just ridiculous, if that is the case, DONT GET A DOG!!

Dude the declawing doesn't even make any sense. The other stuff is a good idea but I've never heard of anyone declawing a dog. Just buy one of those dog nail trimmers and give his nails the occasional trim if they get too long but make sure you don't cut them too short.

Why the hell would you declaw your dog?

It's the same as a cat -- It's a cruel, vicious thing to do.

Just find a breeder that offers happy, healthy puppies. Take your dog for what it is. Don't alter it just for convienance/cosmentic reasons.

Not all of its claws, just its dewclaw. Its the tiny claw on the front wrist. They easily get caught and tear off on puppies.

Why on EARTH would you want to DE-CLAW any animal? It is such an IN-HUMANE, VICIOUS act. As long as you find a REPUTABLE breeder, you should have a sound, happy and healthy puppy.

WHO are *you*???
You don't even know it's DEWCLAWS REMOVED-NOT "declawed"!!
