If a person sits down and reads on their religion then they in turn will come up with their own interpretations on it.
But when taught by someone, they will learn and speak what they where taught instead of thinking and interpreting for themselves.

One thing I can not stand is a sentence like this "Well My Preacher said"
why not tell me what you think

If you look at Man's nature he always needs to be taught which is a right way to do anything and which is the wrong way he should avoid. Right from a one year old baby we have to do this training. If you leave man on his own without any guidance he will perish. You can see so many examples for this. What is common to all the people irespective of all the differences. It is only the Almighty Creator or God which majority accept. Only a small percentage really says no God. They can be very easily proved they are wrong. When we speak of God then automatically the set of rules & regulations comes into the picture. This is what is called as Religion. Religion means how we should live. A constitution is present in all nations. Becos for a country to exist it is a necessary thing. Likewise for man to live peacefully religion is necessary. Today religion has become just few practices and customs done during certain moments of our life. Like going to Church on Sundays, mosques on Friday & temples on few auspicious times. But actually Religion means the way of life. It should be a complete guideline for human, dealing with all the issues of the human life. It should control every minute of our life. This can be done by remembering death at all times. So religion makes any individual to live as human being.

First off religion doesn't differ a person's individuality. To me it sounds as if you think that religion makes you completely different. If that is not what you meant then I am truly sorry for not understanding what you where getting at. Religion helps a person stand out in a crowd. With religion you complete an emptiness inside yourself. Religion should be the most important part of your life. You should never be ashamed of it either.

Just as a piece of sugar differentiates the taste of a cup of tea, adding religion into an individual will bring out the finer aspects of humanity in him. That is, if he truly understands and follows religion.

We don't lose our individuality by pursuing religion. Religion is like the two bunds in between the water of life flows. We get maturity in our thoughts and action while pursuing the fine teachings of religion. It is all in our attitude. Some people prefer to remain slaves to the dictates of mind and senses without following any religious teachings. I don't say religious people are above the mind and senses. At least they exert themselves to follow the dictates of conscious based on religious principles. nagarajan.

Well, if you asked me before I was saved about my place in the God's scheme, I would probably tell you that I didn't know. And even after you told me I would probably say that it could be true, but I didn't know ( I was a very hopeful and analytical Agnostic!) .

But now if you ask me, 'What is your place in God's scheme?" I would answer, "I am promised to be a citizen of a heavenly kingdom, and a new Creation in Christ Jesus, and heir to the throne of God."

So it's confidence, a sense of belonging, knowledge about those things -- those that I did not have as an individual before. It changed me.

Religion only improve the personality and reforms it. It does not cause a differing personality. Misconceptions are removed by a true religion. Cobwebs of doubts are removed. One is able to think clearly, see clearly and decide clearly. He is able to understand purpose of his life.

Religion is man-made. People will easily sway you one direction or another with what they feel is right. You need to do the research yourself. Read a good version of the Bible and books on translation and see what speaks to you. Everyone is made by God and has the inate abilility to know him. But people don't because of their pride or their lifestyle which they don't want to change.
