When I moved into the home that I now own there was a metel hood above the stove. No fan/vent or light but at least 20 coat's of paint. It's taken me forever to get all of the paint off but finally!!!! Now someone told me if I don't put some sort of paint on it, it will rust once it is put back up. Is this true and if so what do I paint it with??? I Know I would want it to be something clear, thank you!!!

If your worried about rust but like the look of the bare metal, you can use clear poly urethane to coat it. It comes in spray cans or you can use a brush. Its a very durable finish. You dont have to worry about using something for high heat. If the flames get high enough to blister the vent hood paint then your kitchen will be on fire, and the hood will be the least of your worries.
