There is a story in prophet Muhammad's biography that tells that after the death of his first wife (khadija), prophet Muhammad married another woman (with the name of Sawda). However, after a few years, prophet Muhammed married the 9-year-old Aysha and therefore he wanted to divorce Sawda (because she was getting old). Sawda begged prophet Muhammed to keep her and he accepted on a condition that he does not spend any time with her and she agreed on that.
Does this mean that any Muslim man can divorce his wife when she gets old?

I believe under Islamic Law, a man can divorce his wife at any time and for any reaon (or no reason) simply by stating publicly to her "talaq” which means "I Divorce You" three times.
I reacall that there was a news story a few years ago in a Islamic Country (I think it was Malaysia) that saying "talaq" over a cell phone is also acceptable.
Under Islamic Law, after saying "talaq" three times, the husband must continue to support his wife for four months. After that time, if he still wants a divorce, it is finalized.

In Saudi Arabia men can divorces wives by repeating 'I divorce you' three times.
So surely they can persecute women on other accounts, like by age. But in S.A. he can also add to his collection, up to four. Why not a new one for every decade, if he's got the cash?
It doesn't require a Hadith to show that something is a religious belief. It is what some followers of Islam do in the name of Islam, so it should be critiqued within this context.
Debate everything.

Wow, I didn't know this one!
Maan, I knew that one about the 9 year old, and always had a very low opinion of Mo; but this really takes him lower!
Cheers!
