OK, I have a tattoo on the back of my neck, and I'll address some of the cons people have posted.

1. Won't make over 20k a year...I do, no problem.
2. Pain...they all hurt, you just deal with it.
3. People looking at you negatively...it has not happened to me at all. It's about how you carry yourself.
4. Not being able to cover it...if your hair is longer than collarbone length, not an issue. A ponytail will even cover it most of the time.

You must carry yourself as if it's not a big deal at all, and people will treat you that way. I get curiousity, and people think the story of my neck tattoo is sweet. Just make sure it's something important to you. =0)

edit: I've had my neck done for almost seven years, and it's not faded out. Sun hardly ever hits it...=0)

Lots of exposure to sun. Even high collars probably don't cover it sufficiently, so it's going to fade. My artist won't do this or above as the art is pretty much guaranteed to go with time. For lettering this is less of a point, but calligraphy is more like an image than purely characters.

Sunblock doesn't work on tats as well as normal skin wrt tanning/burning, so it will fade even with sunblock (as I understand it).

It also will likely hurt more due to the area, but I always consider that a minor point.

Get a Henna first. See how you like it, and watch other people's response. It is a good control for reactions. I go my tattoo in high school, received well by most, but after a while I decided it wasn't me anymore. It took 8 sessions with lasers before I could claim my scar.

Go for your lower back sweetie, all tattos hurt so that is a given, but the cons out weigh the pros, so there is your answer.

well the cons are that you really cannot hide a neck tattoo and getting it must hurt like hell.

pros: You can look sick like George clooney did in dusk til dawn with that crazy tribal going up his neck http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art21770.asp

Unfortunately society doesn't always accept tattoos as easily as we would like. Neck tattoos are not easily covered and there are times that they need to be covered.

Also, there is less chance you will regret it later if it is somewhere you can cover it easily.

never really found pros in tattoos but i guess:
coolness factor

though, the cons outway the pros:
chance of infection(it can still happen)
sore neck(obviously)

tattoo's are forever really think about it especially on the neck. It will be visible to everyone and you need to make sure your job won't flip over showing a tattoo. Plus it hurts like hell there. It can look really trashy on a woman. men think their whores.
