The USS Nimitz is NOT a Flagship!

But I'll answer your question anyway...
The USS LASALLE COMSIXTHFLT (Ghost of the Arabian Coast) now decomissioned, was the BEST Flagship!

Hey OldeSalt...my son was also on the USS La Salle!

First of all the USS Nimitz (class) are not Flagships and never were. You need to look up what Flagship means. American Flagships are the USS Mount Whitney, USS Blue Ridge and the USS Coronado to name just three recent Flagships. But if these are your choices, the Nimitz Class is the largest of the three and they are nuclear. They can stay out to sea forever since they never need to be refueled. That alone is a great fighting strength. The USS RONALD REAGAN is the only carrier in the world that can launch and recovery aircraft at the same time. The United States has the world's greatest Navy. Japan and Russia have nothing on us.

I wasn't aware that any of the Nimitz CVN-68 class carriers were flag ships. I don't think you really know the meaning of a FLAG SHIP.(retired off the USS Nimitz)
I was on the FLAG SHIP FOR THE MIDDLE EAST FORCES 1978-79.(USS La Salle AGF-3)

The USS Intrepid is. It can take so much damage and still be able to float. 50+ airplanes has crash into that ship and it still floats!
