I own both a Ragdoll, and a Birman. The Ragdoll is a blue point mitted, and the Birman is a seal point. Both are wonderful cats. The nice thing about the Ragdolls and Birmans, is the coat. Although they do shed, the coat does not mat. One thing that is extremely important, is that you do NOT declaw them. Ragdoll and Birman feet are very large, and you will physically hurt the cat if you have this done. Not to mention, alot of the time, you will change the cat's personality. Alot of litterbox problems start with declawing.
Either way, I have a 7 year old son, and both cats like to "hang out" with him. Nothing really bothers these 2 breeds of cats. They are not jumpers, or hunters, so keeping them inside is a must. Ragdolls and Birmans tend not to be the sharpest pencils in the box at times.
Also...just so you know...if you have a "mitted" ragdoll, it can not be registered to show. The birman and ragdoll are exact almost if the ragdoll is mitted, so it is not allowed in shows.
If you have any questions, I would be glad to help.

We have a Ragdoll cat, Taffy, who is just over a year. She's not a purebred, she came from two tabbies we had. She had a brother who was a snowshoe lynx, so I'd sure like to have seen what other ancestors she had! The coat is long and luxurious, and at times she looses a lot of fur. She is good at grooming, plus I comb her, but her fur doesn't mat. Ragdolls are extremely friendly and loving - they totally live up to their names, because of their floppiness, and are extremely fun and funny most times.
People aren't allergic to cat fur, they are allergic to the dander.
Any cat is my favourite cat; there have been too many over the years. No particular breed. Our Ragdoll is totally beautiful, with white big ruff in front, tawny back and blue eyes, but I tend to just like a mixed breed tabby best.

Here is a cat story about a 4 month-old Scottish Fold Kitten named "Havarti". I was cleaning one Saturday and stopped in the middle of vacuuming to get something to drink out of the frig. This frig is a big old side-by-side. I finished my cleaning but then I couldn't find Havarti. I called and called. Two hours later I heard a faint, "mrrrwwwaaarr" and walked around trying to figure out where this little guy was. Then I opened the refrigerator and there was Havarti, on the top shelf with his legs all wrapped around a liter bottle of pop. What he'd done is jump on the bottom shelf of the door and rode in with the salad dressing when I shut the door. He climbed up to the top shelf and grabbed onto the first thing he could find. It was dark! Poor little guy. I pried him off the bottle and he snuggled in and started purring. He was a little chilly. I was glad he was so little and the frig was so big or this could have been a disaster. From then on I told everybody about my "cool" cat Havarti. (Yes, he was a cream and white spotted tabby and he was named for cheese!)
I have 5 cats in the house, 4 Scottish Folds and 1 Munchkin. The Munchkin was a rescue. 2 of the Scottish Folds have straight ears and two have folded ears. They all have different personalities, but if they were any more laid-back they'd be in a coma. One is in charge and he always has to make sure the water bowl is full. When it starts to get low he bothers me until I fill it. The Munchkin is the only cat I've ever seen that can look guilty, and he drools when he's really happy..

I do have a ragdoll cat named "Tony". He's not pure but he has all of the attributes of the breed. He does shed quite a bit; his coat is beautiful. And he is the most gentle, loving cat I've ever had. Once he gets to know kids, he's tolerant and loving with them. He's very friendly, however, he does play favorites with me. From the time he was a kitten he was dosile when you'd pick he up..he relaxes completely. I've seen him fall down a flight of stairs completely relaxed...an just got up like nothing happened. He' didn't panic or even try to land on his feet! He doesn't mind if I lay one him, he's very tolerant of my other kitties and he's very smart. He's easy to bathe and groom. He also survived Hurricane Katrina by floating in a sofa. When we finally evacuated, he rode in the car from Mississippi to Maine without any problem. Didn't even have him in a container. He's loving and seems to always know when I'm not feeling good and stays right beside me. So with all of that, I can take a little shedding. My favorite breed is "mixed pound kitties", that is where I found him. But Tony will always be special to me. I love that little man! Godloveya.

I have two cats. Simba is a 7 year old pure Ragdoll. Bay-Ling is a 5 year old Siamese mix.
Simba is a very large, neutered boy with a luxurious full coat of hair. He's very beautiful and he knows it too. He does shed a lot and can mat if not groomed enough.
I think Simba is probably one of the smartest cats that I've ever known. He would scratch on the door to alert us when our dog had to go outside. It was the funniest thing because the dog never learned how to tell us, so the cat learned how to tell us for the dog.
Both cats are in doors cats. However, one day Simba got out and one of the neighbors, a couple of houses away, found him and took him inside their house. When we noticed him missing, my husband and I went outside and started calling for him. Apparently he heard us calling and started scratching at the neighbors door. The man picked up Simba and brought him outside. He was carrying him over to me, when all of a sudden Simba lashed out and scratched the man on the arm then jumped out of his grasp. Somehow I don't think my neighbor will ever rescue Simba again. should the need arise.

Very uncertain. Your attractive cat does not have any of the characteristics of the Ragdoll breed different than fairly comparable fur length. Ragdolls do not come on your woman's shade. they are pointed cats with white, with blue eyes. thinking purebreds make up around 3% of the kinfolk tom cat inhabitants, the possibility that many unspayed/unneutered purebreds are working around mating with however they desire isn't as probable as people look to choose to think of. If somebody has invested income a purebred breeding cat, they are able to't particularly sell the kittens in the event that they are mutts. Are there stupid breeders? of direction. Are there irresponsible breeders? definitely, inspite of the undeniable fact that those varieties are people who ought to make funds from their cats (respected pastime breeders who coach and learn pedigrees, etc. infrequently turn a income with the aid of greater expenditures of a appropriate breeding and coach software) so as that they does not be probable to allow their "moneymakers" to run around and create moggies.

I own a ragdoll. He sheds a lot of hair and matts badly, in warmer weather once he drops his coat, he's great but in winter i'm grooming three times a day and it's not enough. I have owned Chinchilla Persians and he is worse to care for than they were.
I have many favourite breeds I can't pick just one.
Allergies are no more than with other cats. It's just their hair is so fine it flies everywhere and tickles your skin.

We get our cats from the humane society.
Our favorite cat was a pedigreed alley cat.
He was found in an alley in town, behind a funeral home. And we have the papers to prove it. he's in kitty heaven.. We had him 17 years. , He's a black & white.
We got another black & white. A good lapkat.
We also have a cat in the neighborhood we'd rather not have. A peppermint pussy,
a/k/a/ skunk!
