he/she will get a special material that is kind of like clay or silly putty and puts it in a special container that is shaped like a semi-circle. he/she will ask you to open your mouth and they will place it on your upper teeth. it takes about 30 seconds and then he/she will take it out. then they do it again to your lower teeth. if you have an easy gag reflex, try to relax as much as possible during this procedure. breathe through your nose and relax.

I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK :-)

The material used is called Alginate. It is the putty like substance that they use to fill the trays with. The trays are either going to be plastic or metal. Depending on exactly what the impression is for, it could be a whole tray or a tray for just one quadrant. A quadrant is just one half of an arch.

The alginate is a powder that is measured and mixed with water to form the putty. The putty is then scooped up and placed into the tray. The tray goes into the mouth where it will be held in place until the material sets up. (hardens) The setting process will be a bit different from person to person but usually only takes about a minute.

After the impression is made, stone or plaster will be poured into it and allowed to harden. ( my guess would be stone because plaster breaks so easily ) Once the stone is set, the tray is pulled away (taking the alginate with it) and you are left with a model of mold of the teeth.

It is an impression of your mouth like he puts some stuff like puddy on a little mouth piece then inserts it in your mouth for a few minutes to let the puddy make the impression then he sends it to a dental Lab for any work you need done.
