Ok, I have an extreme phobia of the dark, and I am afraid to close my eyes. I have been working with a therapist and she is going to start EMDR treatments for it... But I need a way to fall asleep now! I have gone almost 3 weeks now without ONE minute of sleep, I am EXTREMELY tired but am basically afraid to sleep... PLEASE HELP!!!!!

This is to the person who said my body would have shut down by now and that's it's not possible. I have not gone completely straight, I mean I have fallen asleep for maybe 10 minutes every once an a while, but yeah I feel like falling over and I;m shaking like a maniac

I actually have every single light on around me... And when I took sleeping pills in the past, one dose would wear off, and eventually my docter increased it to the limit until he said no more

The first thing to understand is that you are not alone. My husband has a friend that shares the exact problem you do and cannot sleep without her boyfriend close by.

To try to fall asleep, there are several ways. You can leave your bedroom light on, but if that is too much light, you can leave your hall light on with your door open just a hair so that you can get the best of both worlds. You can also try a nightlight or leaving the TV on for even softer light.

You can also try an over-the-counter sleeping pill, but I recommend against it.

I've provided a few links below that may help you. Some are about others who share your condition and others can give futher advice (and comfort, I'm sure).

You can't go 3 weeks without sleep. Your body would have completely shut down by now. A therapist would have referred you to a doctor, who would have prescribed drugs. I am sorry, but I doubt the honesty in your question. I am a lifelong insomniac, and the longest I have gone without sleep is 3 days. Your body will simply shut down after awhile. I chose to accept it. I don't take drugs and I never will. I just believe that some of us have more active brains than others.

Obviously from your avatar pic, you've been alive for a few years. You must be extremely exhausted from no sleep for 20-some years (unless your fear of the dark just started 3 weeks ago).

I would suggest a warm mug of milk, an extreme romp in the hay, and a feather mattress, along with some soothing (Yanni)music.

Eat a high protein snack before bed, and use a nightlight. Or leave a hall light on and the door open. Or sleep somewhere besides your bed like a couch or something. Listen to music or leave a TV on to distract you from worrying. Good luck!

Either sleep with the light on or pull the covers over your head. Read on the web about eye exercises. Eye exercises make me go to sleep like a baby.

I really don't think this is possible unless you are a meth addict, and then still not very possible. You will die from lack of sleep before you will die from lack of food. This is why I feel you are exaggerating a little. Go to an urgent care center (most relatively large cities have them) and get a sleep aid prescription.

accpet your fears and experience...cause you'll have to face 'em anyway ...

whenever you close your eyes....
try to picture a place you like...
it'll make you feel much better !

or have someone you can hug ...
while goin to sleep ....

dont worry ...i will pray for you
and i hope you get better !

for now ...you have to accept your fears and live with them !
