I go on planes at least twice every year, but well...I'm not that creeped...but when there's turbulance, I'm sweating, and passing out. How can I overcome it? Because...I know the statistics of car and plane, but when turbulance...whatever comes...I'm dead!

I've only experienced really bad turbulence once in over 20 years of flying. Oh, sure, there's the bumpy stuff that prevents me from writing... but that's not really bad, that's more than just a bumpy road.

I tend to focus on other things--have an MP3 player, listen to music. Read a book. Focus on giving reassuring smiles to other nervous passengers (i.e. fake it). Or, chat with the flight attendant!

You shouldn't worry about light turbulence. Its all because the aircraft flies at low altitudes and heavy wind blowing them. Try getting your self into a movie if the airline has got PTV's or the best way if its a long haul flight then get a sleeping pill and take a nap.

You have a phobia. You can't be "told" how to overcome the involuntary feelings of fear whenever you enter the phobia phase.

Usually the only way to overcome this is by therapy - either psychoanalytic or hypnotic. If these aren't options for you then I suggest you talk to others when you feel this fear coming on - sharing it helps alleviate your own emotional reaction to the bodily symptoms.

Try to relax. Generally, turbulences don't threat aircraft safety. They're mostly due to convection (low altitudes) and strong winds (low & high altitudes).
