I'm not a biker chic or hard looking but I like the idea of getting a lower back tattoo, something feminine like an angel or fairy. Opinions? I'm married, by the way, and my husband is not thrilled with the idea.

The tattoo I'm considering getting would be in honor of my deceased mother and more than likely include her name or the word "mom". I've always liked the look of tattoos so it's not something I'd be doing to impress anyone, but I am curious at what "most" other people think of them and so far, I've been very surprised at the result!

I guess it depends on the guy (I know predictable comment) but my husband likes mine. Maybe if he helps choosing the design he might warm to the idea better after all he'll see it more than you.

If you're worried about the stereotypes of the location, there are other places you could put a tattoo that would still emphasize your femininity. Along one side of your waist/ribs or on your hip would be less visible in case your shirt rides up but you don't want everyone to see, and you could wrap the design around a little bit to flow with your curves too.

Though lower back tattoos can be sexy, they've developed such a stigma [as obviously shown by the labels of 'tramp stamp' and '@ss antlers']. I also see so many nowadays that look like the woman only got it so she would have one; often they don't seem very well thought out and though that part of the body has a lot of natural flow, many pieces I see seem just sort of stuck on without regard to the shape of the body [though admittedly figures change; however, it can't hurt to have it look better to start out, since everyone will look old when they're 90 whether or not they have tattoos].

Don't get a tattoo unless you're as sure as you're going to be that it will make you happy and you won't regret it. It can take years to find the perfect design, and something so permanent shouldn't be rushed. There will be time in the future for you to change your mind and get one; it's much harder to change your mind and take one off. It probably wouldn't hurt to try to reach a compromise with your husband that will make both of you happy too. ;) Good luck!

I don't like them, but I don't like tattoos at all. Every woman from 18-40 seems to have one these days, and they don't think about how awful they will look when they get older. The lower back tattoo does look trampy and trashy.

If you really want to try it, I suggest getting one of those henna tattoos there and see what kind of reactions you get.

Lower back tattoos are trendy.
Not so much sexy anymore since everyone and their dog has one.
If you're not getting something with real meaning to you you'll feel dumb later and your husband will probably go out of his way to make you feel that way.

Since your husband is the only that will be able to see it other than when you look at it in a mirror and he is not happy with the idea. Why would you want it done? It's not feminine, most men don't like them and in that area it is called a tramp stamp. So if you want to make your husband happy and be seen as a classy chick, don't do it.

Yes! But husbands are a different story though. They dont want their wife to be put in a particular sterotypical group of women, because the lower back tattoo's have many negative connotations....

Well, since EVERY girl has decided that having a tattoo above their crack is sexy, it's pretty commonplace. It has totally lost, in every way, any sort allure. But ask yourself this - Do you really want one there because YOU like the way it looks, or because you think other people will like the way it looks? I have three tattoos and I don't show them off to anyone. I got them because I like the way they look on me, which, unfortunately is not the reason most people get tattoos these days. Most people get them because they think it's the "in" thing to do. In 10 years, I'm going to laugh at all the people who are going to spend alot, and I mean alot, of money on tattoo removal. But my opinion is they are tacky. They are tacky BECAUSE eveybody has one now. The art of body decoration has turned into a culture of "Look at me! Look at me!" instead of doing it because you like the way it looks on you.

You shouldn't get a tattoo having "what would men think about it" in mind, well that's my opinion anyway. Besides, it depends on the guy if they find it hot or not, all men do not find one trait hot or not... so just get what you want for you.

I'm a married guy and I agree with your hubby. There is nothing more beautiful than what God already gave you. Having someone repeatedly plunge an ink soaked needle into your skin does precious little to refine perfection.
Take a good look at yourself... how can you improve on that?

Honestly, I find tattoos on a woman, of any kind, to be kind of a turn-off. I'm not sure why, but to me, a tattoo can make an otherwise extremely attractive girl seem... I dunno, I just don't like em. Unless it has something deeply meaningful about it, I would just say forget about it.

I'm with your husband on that one. I don't like it and my husband doesn't either. Most women in my generation have done this and I'm glad I didn't. I can't imagine what that will look like when your 60. yuck!
