The process varies by location. You need to call your local children's services office. There's a real shortage of foster parents and many counties have presentations to recruit foster parents. You'll go through a police check first thing. Once you're cleared, most places have a workshop and orientations but it varies soooo much... it's hard to know what they do in your area.

Try to talk to people who are fostering in your area. Some agencies are very supportive and honest with the foster parents and others are not. It helps to know what the agency is going to be like when you work with them.

Good luck. This is an area of desperate need. There are so many children who need care, mainly due to drug use by their parents.

Being a fosterparent is a rewarding experience. Unfortunately, there are some bad people that can scam the system to become a fosterparent. It is a wonderful thing that you are thinking of opening your home and your heart to children. The process isn't too hard. There are training classes you need to go through. There's paperwork, some people might say there is alot but it isn't too bad! You need alot of patience for the process to become a fosterparent. Sometimes it is rough being a fosterparent to these children but you will be amazed at the good that comes of them being in your home and being loved by someone! Good Luck!

it is extremely trying and difficult, but also very rewarding if you're up to it. start by contacting your local HHS office for specifics, procedures, classes, et cetera.

good luck and best wishes to you...
