Would you actually say that to a heavily tattooed person, face to face, or are you made courageous by anonymity?

More to some other posters...

I think the point she is trying to make is not would you do this to their face in person, but if you wouldn't, why you feel it's okay to do it here. This is regardless of any proof you may (or may not) have - it's purely a "what's different" kind of query.

It doesn't take a brave/tough/strong person to make these statements online, nor is that enough in face to face conversations. It does take rudeness, and the lack of anything required but that online should say something.

Personally, I try to be as civil as I can online as I can, because it's too easy to not be so.

As someone earlier pointed out they fade over time from exposure to the sun and through migration of the ink and they can end up looking a mess.
I have a friend with a major snake tattoo winding right down his arm and the outer part where the sun has hit the colour is all faded out but on the other side of his arm the colours are still vivid so overall it looks pretty bad.
Trashy?... I think that is part of the idea, tattoos can make men look tough and make women look easy. Some might think tattoos make both men and women look both tough and easy, generally I like them on other people, the uglier and more kitsch the better and I am more likely to genuinely admire them than say they look trashy. I would never go there myself however, I'd get bored with anything tattooed on my skin and being stuck with it forever, no thanks!.
(The tattoos on front of Kelly Osborne's ankles really annoy me but I like the person)

Wow I wish we could all be as self righteous as you "L N" How about supplying that link?

Anyone who calls a person is tattooed trashy is shallow and judge mental. Granted there are people out there who are tattooed and happen to be trashy, but making a generalized absolute statement like that only shows that the person who said that is ignorant and close minded. Just because someone has an opinion doesn't mean it is the truth. I think pleated pants look trashy but I don't go around insulting people who wear them, to their face or behind their back. Because if that is what they like, then good for them. I have enough self control and respect to treat people with dignity.

Plenty of people with tattoos still look classy and plenty of people without tattoos still look trashy. I'm not denying that there aren't trashy tattooed people either, but in my perception trashy is part of the person, not just their skin.

Regarding the 'face to face' aspect, I only ever try to warn friends if they're on shaky ground in terms of image; confronting strangers about their perceived shortcomings seems significantly more impolitic. I figure they have their own friends for that.

Isn't it hilarious when people make personal judgments about people and then quote it as coming out of a Medical Journal they really need to pull their head out of their a**!! I think tattoos are awesome and are a wonderful form of self expression and art, I plan on getting one soon and I've never had an STD and I rarely use alcohol and never use drugs I also don't have any body piercings. I'll have to write myself up in a Medical Journal at my next possible convenience.

I think tattoos look trashy, but I wouldn't tell someone to there face that they looked trashy, because I wouldn't want to hurt there feelings. It wouldn't have anything to do with me being scared of them or anything like that. If I happened to be talking about tattoos and someone that had a lot of tattoos asked me what I thought about them I would tell them I thought they were trashy like I tell my son and daughter all the time. They both have one.

The rose tatoo I have on my ankle used to look so cute, but over the years the black outline of the rose has spread out so you can't see the colors anymore. Now it looks like a third degree burn more than a tatoo. I'm the first one to admit it looks trashy.

you do not state how old you're, yet you do ought to evaluate the certainty that tattoos ARE everlasting and you ought to be particularly particular on your techniques, which you're actually not at some later date going to experience sorry approximately having it performed. As for once you attain 80, i think of that by way of then you definitely will in all possibility have greater to rigidity approximately than a dishevelled tattoo !!.

I've only got 1, I'm getting another soon. Trashy huh? They're so common these days i'm suprised to hear people saying that. But if people really think that it says more about them than the tattoos.

No one has ever told me I look trashy w/ my tattoo.

No and I wouldn't go up to a skank and tell her she looks trashy either. It has nothing to do with being brave as the only people that would bother going up to strangers to tell them off would be a drunk or nutcase.
