i asked becuase when I went to visit the breeder, the puppy that will be mine was not, as hyper as I had read about. Also, the breeder is excellent, and I probably should not have called you a jerk, but I hate when people assume to know what I do and don't do.

ahh one of my favorite dog breeds. well all i can say is EXTREMELY hyper haha. My boyfriend's family (we're practically married haha we've been together for 5 years) has owned only springers and they're super super sweet. They're most recent one "hunter" spends most of his day running circles in the back yard and chasing shadows all over the house, when you're downstairs you can hear him pacing around upstairs. However he is a nervous dog and isn't very friendly with strangers so i would socialize him early not that this is a trait of just a springer (their other springer wasn't like this) but thats just a good rule all the way around. Just remember that he is first and foremost a hunting dog and that when he doesn't hunt he doesn't have a job. Maybe get him one of those vests that will allow you to put water bottles in it and have him wear it when he gets older on walks that way hes working and using his energy. They're hyper gorgeous beautiful sweet loving goofy dogs and i cant wait until i am able to add one to my household!

All puppies are hyper when they are young. Spaniels are particularly hyper. A good way to determine how hyper she might be is by asking the breeder how hyper the mum and dad were as pups.

Good luck. I hope you have heaps of fun with your ESS. They are adorable dogs!

Well hun honestly the difference in bench & field is pretty much more cosmetic than personality....Springers bottom line are game/sporting dogs & bred to have very high stammina & energy. They are bred to be able to last ALL day long in the field hunting so you are looking to have a hyper dog. My Aunt used to raise/breed/show Springers so I grew up around LOTS of them & they are young & old high energy, very loyal, very loving dogs. They are great but be preparred to make sure your pooch gets LOTS of exercise & attention because if you fail to supply it he/she will find ways to MAKE you give it to her/him. They NEED this exercise & attention to thrive & be happy. ALL field dogs arelike this & the only bit of relief I can offer is that our Springers were never quite as hyper as my Englisg Setter LOL best of luck & congrats on a great dog hope you can provide each other w the companionship you both need & want!!!

I dog sat for an ESS and it was very hyper. As long as you train the dog correctly and exercise it regularly you will be fine. I would highly suggest obedience classes.
It is a wise idea to research dog breads before getting one. If you want a pet, you should make sure it can fits into your lifestyle.

I think it depends on the dog's personality.
