well if you want earthly serene ones i would suggest a faint cappucino shade...bright cafe-o-lait...this brownish shades go well both with light and dark wood of the furniture....add enough warm light fixtures and you'll get a perfect room meant for relaxation and mood setting experiences. but remember...use a very faint, light, non violent shade too brighten up the room. you could also use spring like greens(scented candles, bed spread, curtains) to give it a fresh appearance or go with the red, but not a dark, deep red, but light and airy, to keep it more stylish. go with dark and light blue combinations as a compromise, not too stylish like the red, and not too youngish like the green.

Well, I would say definitely go with a shade of blue
if all you want is something peaceful and calm,
but since you also mention that you want something "earthy",
I would suggest a shade of green.
To take the best of both worlds,
I would pick a bright blue/green.
Sherwin Williams has a great color picker tool
to help you narrow down your color.
I picked out a pretty color, you can follow
the link and instructions as follows:
http://www.sherwin-williams.com/do_it_yourself/paint_colors/paint_color_palette/#
Click on "Launch Color Visualizer" Then
Click on " Find Color" Then
Type in "LAGOON" under the "quick search box.
Good Luck!

i would say go with something that compliments you. i would say if you want earthy go with a neutral color like a tan or beige.
but to start i would buy a nice big bucket of Kiltz and put a couple layers atleast on the walls before putting your new color. this will prepare your wall for a lighter color.
Kiltz has both latex and oil based....my personal preference would be the oil based tho as it is thicker and has been around longer than their latex version. if you do choose the oil based kiltz then you hav to make sure everything that will not get the kiltz is fully covered as it is not removed easily. a family member used the latex version and had the same issue as with the oil based. also make sure that the area is well ventilated
good luck and have fun :)

My room is a natural color--almost a mix between tan and a really light olive green. I love it because it is calming and warm (colorwise) and inviting, and seems to be what you're looking for.
If you want it cool and calming, a light blue would work, too. But I like the warm colors better.
Additional: Wow, it looks like these colors have already been suggested. Well, a second opinion never hurt.

Think about places you've been that felt nice to you. Whatever seems relaxing, soothing or whatever mood you're trying to create. Generally greens are considered the most relaxing colors, browns help you concentrate, blue is soothing to most people, purples are more spiritual and are good for meditative spaces. But in the end you have to be there so choose what feels right to you. A lot of people think yellow is cheerful but I find it depressing so your own eye is the only one that counts.

Pick two pale/pastel colors you like making sure they combine and either paint two of the walls the same color and the other two of another color. Another thing you can do is make a border with one color and then paint the rest of the wall with the other color that you picked. I would paint my room a minty green (pastel color), leaving the ceiling white.

How about Terra Cotta. It is a very warm earth tone, with just a touch of orange. One of my rooms is this color and I absolutely love it. I have another room that is peacock blue, which is also beautiful, but hardly an earth tone.
