So I havent done any real workout now for 5yrs, the last time was in high school when I was in the track team. I'm by no means fat, I only weigh 136 at 5'9.

However, I have noticed that Ive lost my lean stomach and Im starting to fill out. Which is leading me to workout again, however, with no guidance, I am unsure as to where to begin.

My main goal.....get my lean stomach back, thats it. If I do work out, I dont want to get bulk...I just want to get some tone. So Im wondering if cardio 5x a week for say 30mins do the job? Any advice on how to get started and what kind of stuff I can do, would be greatly appreciated.

A good way to start out is with a basic circuit training routine. You will want to cardio 4 to 5 times a week for about 30 minutes. It is also good to alternate longer workouts with shorter ones.

Try running for ten minutes, then working on an eliptical or exercise bike for ten minutes and then walking at a high incline for ten minutes without taking breaks between these activities. If you get too tired to continue, use shorter rotations. This way you will be able to build up your resistance without exhausting yourself. After your cardio routine there are a lot of great ab building exercises you can do. I like to to sit ups with my legs elevated and then scissor my legs up and down. There are really a lot of great ab exercises you can find online. It is good to do a variety of these because it will make it seem easier and will work a greater variety of muscle groups. Between sets of these I do bridges to stretch out my stomach muscles.

If you are looking to lose a little weight, it is good to alternate short routines with long routines to get variety.

You are on the right track but there are better ways to get tone. I will be a certified personal trainer next month. It depends on how much time you want to put into it? but from the sounds of it you have at least 30 min 5 times a week. so the best to tone is actually cardio with weight training together. with your schedule the best would probobly do cardio mon wed and fri. for 30 min and tuesday and thur do wieght training with 4 different exersises 3 sets 12 to 15 reps with only 30 seconds rest. if you have some extra time try to work your abs in twice a week. don't worry about bulking up you will tone before you bulk. also try to eat healthy try to stay away from lots of carbs before bed time. and stay away from sugar. hope this helps.

Very Simpile. Start with pushups, sit ups, and mountain climbers. Then hit up the pull up bar, doing both ways. Do everything in sets, with 30 secs to 1 min reasting periods between the reps. Change your beverages to water, 100% juice, and fitness water. Eat healthly, you can never get full on fruit :). But anyways, i have a small workout if you want it. You really dont need weights unless you want to build mass muscle. Pushups and pullups are the best for upper body, and sit ups, mountain climbers are for lower. Go on the internet and find some exercises, just type the exercise in and BAM!! Good to go :) Email if any questions.
