I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT MAY BE FROM.
BUT I SUGGEST CUTTING IT OFF AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BEFORE IT MAKES THE REST OF YOUR HAIR HAVE SPLIT ENDS AND EVENTUALLY JUST BREAK OFF.AFTER CUTTING IT OFF.I SUGGEST EATING HEALTHY,BECAUSE IF YOU EAT THE RIGHT FOOD.AND THE RIGHT AMOUNTS OF PROTEIN THEN YOU WILL END UP WITH GREAT LOOKING HAIR.SO BASICALLY HOW HEALTHY AND GOOD YOU EAT IS HOW HEALTHY AND GOOD YOUR HAIR WILL END UP LOOKING.YOUR HAIR MAY BE BREAKING OFF BECAUSE OF TIGHT HAIR BANDS.DONT PUT YOUR HAIR IN PONY TAILS ,IF YOU MUST,I SUGGEST USING THE RIGHT HAIR SCRUNCHIES.THE ONES THAT DON'T PULL OUT YOUR HAIR.ALSO,MAKE SURE YOU DON'T WASH YOUR HAIR EVERYDAY,BECAUSE YOUR HAIR NEEDS THE NATURAL OILS THAT YOUR SCALP PRODUCES.I SUGGEST WASHING YOUR HAIR 2-3 TIMES A WEEK.NO MORE,AND MAKE SURE TO CONDITION YOUR HAIR WELL,BECAUSE CONDITIONING WILL GET YOUR HAIR IN GREAT SHAPE,AND HELP PREVENT SPLIT ENDS.
JUST TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR HAIR,AND CUT THE ENDS OFF EVERY 6-8 WEEKS,AND YOU SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH SPLIT ENDS OR DAMAGED HAIR.

ARGH, I hate when that happens to me. I use a straightener but I always stop before I get to the end, so my hair can't really be fried, and I use good conditioner too. I can't really think of anything that could be making your hair do what it's doing, except maybe the weather. Do you live in a place that is dry? I'm not sure if that could be a reason, just a thought...

Get a haircut every 6 to 8 weeks. Also, deep condition it at least once a week.

im guessing the hair under there is more fragile and soft. id switch to 100% all natural shampoo and conditioner. theres too much synthetic conditioning agents in al these commercial shampoos (everything in target like stores)

Are you using elatic bands to put your hair up? When you put your hair up make sure you use a scrunchi with material on the outside and don't pull on your hair when you brush.

chop up ends won't "improve out" - as quickly as the hair is chop up, this is chop up. the sole thank you to get rid of a chop up end is by using reducing it off. in the journey that your hair has a tendency in the direction of chop up ends, be certain you trim it frequently to maintain it looking healthful.
