big_john (below) Callers are told that to improve cust serv, this call may be monitored. Other lines beep every 15 secs as a warning of being monitored/recorded.
An individual can tape anything they choose, movies, music, conversations etc. This does not make it legal NOR admissible in a court of law.

No, they will never understand it. Just like they won't understand how many rights they are losing under this administration through the Patriot act, including the ones you mentioned, and the long term consequences that it means and will have on our country. They also won't get that the FBI has been abusing those eaves dropping acts since 911 and the passing of the Patriot act on legal American citizens that have nothing to do with the mid-east or terrorism.

Chi Guy , & some others here.......Have your phone calls actually been taped , or do you really have cause to believe your phone is tapped? If not, why the paranoia? If so , what have you been up to that made you a target?
I happen to be a very liberal Dem, probably more liberal on more issues than you may be, also considerably more intelligent than you portray on this site. I'm not happy about the system being abused in this scenario, but the period just after 9/11 was something unique in our history, & some poor decisions were made as attempts were made to prevent more attacks.
Personally , if the government received info that I had been making a large number of calls to the middle east , on a frequent basis , I would HOPE they might at least check it out.
Curtailment of some "rights" is not new, & not a conservative/Republican issue as you naively promote! Conservatives didn't pass a law requiring me to wear a seatbelt I already chose to wear as common sense......NOW it's a CRIME!! That was MY liberal friends!!
Conservatives didn't make it ILLEGAL for my friends to smoke a cigarette in a BAR!! That was MY liberal friends!
How do you propose preventing another 9/11 type attack??

Listening in, and using what they hear in court are two different things. T
They could listen and use the information to prevent a crime, or catch someone in the act, but the tapped stuff from a warrantless wire tap would still be inadmissable as evidence in court.
This is a fresh topic, it's funny how some care not a whit, and others get very upset over the idea. It's also funny that it seems to be conservatives who feel the least strongly AGAINST wire taps. Is that because conservatives have less to hide(except the occassional mistress, which isn't illegal anyway!)?

to be completely accurate if there is a warrant no one on the line needs to give any sort of consent to be taped. i am one hundred percent sure you new that because well everyone know that unless you are a complete moron. but the reason i said to be completely accurate is because you can record any conversation you ever have if you want to. as long as one of the parties involved in a conversation knows that it is being recorded it is admissible. it is a protection for everyone. if someone calls you and threatens you if you knew you were recording the conversation than it is admissible. i have a recorder on my own phone that i can turn on whenever i want to. i record every sales call and every call to customer service for anything. that way i can prove they said something if they come back and try to say they didnt.

It used to be against the Constitution.. but we have a President who thinks he can re-write it to fit HIS agenda, They claim it's to catch terrorists.. hahaha they can't even find OBL and used to say the war in Iraq was to protect us from terrorist too. hahaha Now we have a corrupt government but Bush thinks it's ok and uses his presidential executive privileges to hide the corruption... But the Conservatives march on.. Lets play follow the leader! Wave those flags but before Bush is out of office the Flag will be re-designed with a Swastika... hahaha LOOK AT ALL THE CONSERVATIVES POPPING IN TO THUMBS DOWN YOU.. HAHAHA BUT IF YOU NOTICE NO ONE HAS AN ANSWER FROM THE CONSERVATIVE SIDE.. MAYBE THEY HAVE NO ANSWERS?? JUST FOLLOW THE LEADER HAHAHA
SantaBud have you lived in that dark tunnel for long??? Wake up pal.. you might be being recorded at this very moment.. Hmmmmmmm didn't Bush just refuse to allow his advisors to testify under oath?? Whats he got to hide?? Same idea of if you don't like the wire taps what do you have to hide?/ hahaha

What do you expect from those who pick and choose??
We either have rights (the whole premise of this country) or we don't (the whole premise of those countries we "hate").
It makes me wonder how they have the cojones to call Liberals "flip-floppers". I guess when your "main man" can actually call himself the "Decider" you think you can get away with anything!!
And they've got the populace so frightened of the "radical Islam jihad" that we're willing to give up anything to be "safe".
Don't you people realize that there is NO guarantee of "safety" ever? Was Germany "safe"? Were WE "safe" from right-wing militia-man Tim McVeigh??
I'd like to be "safe" from having my phone conversations taped by the FBI, but I see that "ain't about to happen" either......

You have ENROLLED into a contract by calling or answerng* th phone.
The good outweighs thebad when it comes to saying someone SHOULD NOT tape someone.
Sometimes it's your onlychance to prove wht someone is up to.
