I wouldn't know how well that would work out. It most likely could work, if religion isn't the problem.

We'll take an example, an atheist who firmly does not believe in God and does not wish the children to be exposed to Christianity. The Christian devoutly believes in God and wants the children to be raised as Christians.

Should they have children, the atheist would fight for their children to either choose their own religion or not have them be introduced to Christianity, while the Christian would fight for their children to be in church.

Now, I wouldn't care if my child were atheist or Christian or Buddhist or whatever. I think my child is free to choose their own religion. As long as my wife doesn't drag me to church, I don't care what religion my kids are. I would only marry a Christian or go out with them if they didn't force me to go to church. But considering that the US is mostly Christian, I doubt I'll have a wife or girlfriend.

But think about it. Would you marry someone before knowing their opinion on raising children or their lifestyle? I wouldn't. I'd ask if they'd drag me to church. If they would, then I'm out.

TO THE ASKER:

You dumb-***! Going to church isn't the only thing that Christians do! Christians have lives too. And what you mean when you say that atheists 'give up their brains?" There are a few fundamental Christians who are seriously disturbed, but most of the Christian communities these days are open-minded enough to accept people. People should marry based on love, beliefs should not hinder this.

I think the choice of marrying someone usually has more to do with the person, donnet? So if it worked great with a couple (I mean, not all claimed Christians are nutjobs), then great for them. But...with the most Christiany types, the difference of view is not going to work out well.

I am an atheist. I don't think I could marry a christian. Afterall, if she were a christian of the "true" variety, she would have nothing to do with me. I always see that the "true" variety of christians do not get unequally yoked, and do not cast pearls amongst swine, and light has nothing to do with darkness.

I know how christians think. Afterall, I was one way back in history.

i dont know. that is a question i would like to know. i do support that they have a way to give back to the world and all that junk, but i dont like when they push stuff in my face. and thats a maybe on marrying them. i would prefer a fellow atheist when that time comes, but if i fell in love with a christian who respected by beliefs, i dont think i would mind, as long as they left my beliefs out of our relationship. one of my x's made the mistake of trying to convert me, BIG MISTAKE. havnt seen him in ages, and dont plan on it. so all in all, it would depend on the guy. where i currently live though, i have no choice. freak christians(not all christians are, just the ones i know) are the only ones around.

sigh. life goes on.

I'd marry a moderate one, one who wouldn't try to push his beliefs on me and who would be ok with me being an atheist. I don't care if he believes differently than I as long as he isn't in my face about it.

Funny how you just assume the characteristics of a marriage by religion... and funny how, in my school days, there were two Mormons, two Catholics, one Latter Day Saint, three Atheists, one Muslim and two Agnostics whom I called my friends, who all got along so well that it was like world peace shrunk to fit high school...

I'm an atheist who married a catholic because I loved her. Unfortunately we are getting a divorce, but it had nothing to do with religion. There can be mutual respect in a atheist/theist relationship.

My girlfriend is Christian. We will get married this year..so yes.

But honestly, most so called Christians won't call her a 'true christian'. Simply because she doesn't believe in the concept of hell.

I don't think I could marry a girl who would believe I would end up in hell.

I'm afraid not. Too much conflict will result in unhappiness and ultimately divorce.
