the comment "we agree to disagree" seems to apply in this case. They can disagree about your son, but they can agree on being mother and daughter, and, remember that blood is thicker than water so any problem she runs into in her marriage she will go crying to her mother and her mother will convince her she's right and there will be a split. The sad situation is that when people marry, they need to consider that they marry the family as well. Maybe you should not be the person trying to solve this dilemma; maybe you should leave it up to someone else to solve. Do you have any idea why the girl's mom doesn't like your son? Was there some misunderstanding?

She should stay away for a while until she thinks things have calmed down. Then after a few weeks she should talk to her mom one on one about why things were so bad.

You have to determine if the main argument is regarding your son. There may be other matters involve, History. You have every right to question you son's mother-in-law the reason of her attitude about your son.

Invite her out for dinner and really get to know her. You may find what's really going on. It may be a secret she knows about her daughter. It would be best if you investigate this situation.

God Bless

It's tough to let go, once they're married, isn't it?? She needs to visit her Mom less often. The whole idea is to let them establish their own home by their rules. She needs to be independent enough to do that, but not shun her mother. She needs to give her Mom time to adjust, and a little space.
