I'll be in NYC on March 26 until around March 31. I checked the weather reports and it says it should be around 42-52 degrees but things is, I don't really know what clothes are appropriate for that kind of weather since I live in Southeast Asia. So it'd be really helpful if you could tell me what kind of coats, jackets, and shoes to bring. I'm particularly worried about the jackets/coats. What kind of material should they be?

What is also appropriate to wear for Broadway? I'll be watching Phantom of the Opera and possibly Wicked.

Thanks very much!!!

Don't listen to these fools. Perhaps you have heard of the poet, T. S. Eliot? "April is the cruellest month". Spring weather in the tri-state area is unpredictable. For example, today is the 25th. This afternoon it was quite comfortable - you could have worn just a light spring jacket or even no jacket at all at the height of the day. But this evening was miserable and without a winter coat you would be hurting. Also note that although the weather is now warmer than it used to be (I have lived in the area for 48 years so I ought to know), it can still snow in April on occasion. My advice to you is to pick up a cheap winter coat when you get here. Something light, like nylon with a decent liner to keep you warm. Don't get anything fancy like down or leather. That way you can just throw it out or give it to some homeless person when you leave. It is a whole hell of lot easier to shed your coat if it is too warm than to be running around looking for what you don't have if it gets cold. You should also have a 2nd coat - a light spring jacket or a lined, hooded sweatshirt for when it is not so cold out, yet not so warm that you would be comfortable with nothing. As far as going to broadway theaters is concerned, I wear whatever I want to - and that means jeans, sneakers and a polo shirt. The day they institute a dress code is the day I stop going.

Well, at this time of year it can be very wet, so sneakers intead of sandles would be a good idea. Even 52 degrees is a little chilly so you'll be wanting to wear long pants, probably jeans and some sort of long sleve shits. A light jacket such as a pea coat or hoodie will come in handy, any material would be fine as long as it will keep you warm. You don't really need a heavey winter jacket, but a spring one....as for the broadway a cute dressy top, dress pants, and casual heels would be appropriate. You may also want to bring an umbrella incase it rains. If you would like to find clothes of this sort in New York City just go to the clothing shops. I suggest Macy's. Good Luck!!

Bring your most comfortable walking shoes (and a pair of comfortable "real" shoes (not sneakers). Right now, 2pm, it's a gorgeous day - 54degrees. I wore a very light jacket and was comfortable. A hooded sweatshirt would be warm enough today. I doubt that you will need a heavy coat in New York. Bring a light jacket - and a medium jacket or something heavier to wear under the light jacket for cooler evenings. (if you don't have a heavier jacket and find you need one, you can buy an inexpensive one here - it's sillly to spend money on clothing that you will have no use for) Bring an umbrella - if your jackets are water repellent - even better, but don't buy one just for this trip. If you ordinarily wear boots in the rain, bring them. I just wear my sneakers - they keep my feet dry if I don't step in deep puddles. For streetwear, anything goes. Look what HE wears everyday:

(Look for him in Times Square near the theatres). Bring your camera!

Don't wear jeans and a tank top to the theatre; that is not appropriate and you won't be comfortable. You don't have to "dress up" unless you are going someplace afterwards. Wear clothing that isn't tight - you will be sitting in one spot for a few hours - tight jeans will cut into you and leather will make you sweat and stick to the seat. A simple dress, skirt and blouse or loose fitting pants suit will be fine. Also realize, that you are wearing a jacket when you enter the theatre; you remove it when you get to your seat. When the show starts, the lights go down, so the only people who can see what you're wearing are the people sitting right next to you - so your comfort is more important than what people will think of your attire. Most theatres don't have facilities to check your jacket, so you have to keep it on your lap during the show. I find this very uncomfortable, so I bring a large plastic bag and put my jacket in it and store it under my seat.

You've chosen two wonderful shows - you're going to have a great time.

Don't listen to any of them! I live in NHew York, do not wear leather at the end of March because it will be too hot! Here is a good day outfit for New York in style- a short trench coat, skinny jeans, layered shirts like a tank and a light fitted sweater with ballet flats or skimmers, long necklaces are in. For the theater try not to look like a tourist, so not over dress!!! Nice fitted black pants, sexy heels, a fitted camisol with a cropped jacket and that same necklace from earlier, you will be look good for the theater, and if you want to go to a club or bar after, just loose the jacket at the door. Have a great time!

Hi, weather in NY, is pretty much the same arround this time. Although, it could be tricky. It also depends on activities you will doing in NYC. If your intentions are walking and admiring the city day or night, at this time, i still suggest a winter jacket. You might also need a warm pullover it might to the trick during daytime or sometimes at night. Its still very humid this time of year. Enjoy and NYC is amazing
