Most kidney toxins cause kidney disease within 1-4 days. Watch for excessive water intake (more than 1 ounce per pound of body weight for 24 hours). The kidneys work as a filter for toxins that the body naturally produces. If they are not working your pet will feel sick (like a hangover) and stop eating, possibly vomit although it will most likely be just bile. Your vet can tell if your cat is having a problem by seeing if the urine is too dilute and by testing the blood for the build up of toxins and natural substances that the kidneys normally get rid of. If you are at all suspicious, or even if it is just time for your pet to get an overdue annual exam think about going to the vet now. If your pet is over 7 years of age it is a good idea to run the blood test every 1-2 years as a routine health screen.

I have heard that it takes between 1 to 3 days for a cat to show symptoms of kidney failure after eating the contaminated petfood on recall. But there are variables to consider such as (a) the age and general health of the cat; (b) the amount of contaminated food ingested. Kittens, older cats and sick cats succumb quicker. A couple of mouthfulls and the cat may jst vomit and that will be the end of it... but if your cat has eated the recalled food, best have the kidney functions tested so you'll know for sure.

Take the cat to the vet to have blood workups and urinalysis. They can test creatinine and BUN (base urea nitrogen) levels to check the kidneys and liver enzymes to check liver function.
In my experience it depends on the level of exposure and the original health of the cat and some things can take up to 6 weeks to have an effect. Cats only need 30% kidney function for them to work normally so by the time symptoms appear, they've already lost 70% or more and are critical.

they said most were showing symptoms within 24 hours in one article I read, but seriously it would be a great idea to take your cat to the vet just to get things checked out and be sure she is ok, because if there is something wrong with her there are better chances of getting treated before she starts showing the symptoms. Hope your kitty is ok!

if she ate the food, even if she doesnt' have symptoms, it may have damaged her kidneys. so, i guess the answer is, if she isn't showing symptoms don't worry about getting her to the vet for immediate treatment.
BUT, 6 yrs from now, when your cat is sick with something completely different, the sickness may end up being much worse due to the damaged kidneys that it got from eating the tainted food.
so, for the rest of your cats life you should probably keep that in the back of your mind that he/she may be prone to kidney problems. that may affect the way you treat disease later in it's life AND it may be necessary for you to always watch out for symptoms associated with kidney problems ( not eating well, frequent vomitting, increased water consumption, lack of energy, etc.)

I cooked all my meals understanding that it particularly is sparkling. Even vegetables, except it particularly is domicile grown, should be wiped sparkling with the aid of bugs and sprayed chemical compounds (pest killers). this could be a humorous tale, yet my father used to declare. in case you ate some thing and it does not reason abdomen discomfort, it particularly is powerful. Yea appropriate---lol--. you know what, in Florida they ate gator meat, and many of the nutrients keep here sells shark meat? We used to capture Sharks with fishing internet. Call your vet and ask, since this terrible thing has happened, more vets are answering questions over the phone, regarding the tainted food problem.
I just said a little prayer that your kitty didn't get any bad food and is fine.

if you think your kitty ate tainted food, you probably need to take the kitty to the vet asap. i dont know how sudden symptoms would show up... some animals may have a delayed reaction, i don't know... but to be sure, i would take the cat to the vet anyway
