The Black Galaxy is very nice...the little coppery bits of mica make it seem to shimmer in the light. And it would be lovely with the dark cherry cabinets. If you still want to go with a dark granite, but not quite so black, you could try something like Uba Tuba. It is a "Level 1" granite like Black Galaxy, so it would be about the same price.
If you want something really beautiful and can handle a little jump in price, ask about "Marron Cohiba" or "Antique Brown". (Same stone, just called different things depending on who is selling it). It is a dark, java brownish black color with graining that looks almost like ice crystals. Just beautiful....
Do stick with the darker granites. The light ones can spot if not properly maintained.

We have dark cherry wood cabinets and black galaxy granite counter tops also with black appliances. I love it. We have light tile so its not to dark, but our kitchen is open to the living room. I think if your kitchen is closed off then it might be too dark. Good Luck.

before even opening this question i was thinking "black is perfect!" lol, and the only reason i say this is because i watch HGTV all the time and cherry wood with the black granite always looks amazing. it just looks so sleek and nice. i dont think that a beige type color would look good against the dark cherry. and, if you want professional opinions go look through some interior design magazines at the store!

For a bit of contrast, I would go with a dark or lighter gray granite with specks of black if you can get it. However, the black galaxy granite is nice too.

No don't do beige; it's to boring. Black Galaxy; does it have white in it? I say do a black/gray/white mix; something in the middle. I like black except in very small kitchens when I prefer white appliances and lighter cabinets and counters.

I have the same color cabinets in my kitchen. We dediced to do a gray with specks of several lighter colors (reds, orange, beige, etc). It is beautiful and strong...not dark. Hope this helps.

go to places that sell granite counter tops and ask for sample tiles of colors so you can see how it would look together; personally i think if there is a cream colored granite you would be better off

Tanned or pinkish/salmon would look nice. Try Lowe's or Home Depot Hardware for ideas.
