Malayalam (മലയാളം malayālam) is the language spoken predominantly in the state of Kerala, in southern India. It is one of the 23 official languages of India, spoken by around 37 million people. A native speaker of Malayalam is called a 'Malayali'. Malayalam is also spoken in Lakshadweep and Mahé (Mayyazhi).

so Malayalam is actually not a NATIONAL language. It is the language spoken in the state of kerala (India). Only in India does this language exsist but if you find anyone speaking malayalam anywehere, then he or she is a south indian.
