Generally, people who are acquainted with Pascal's Wager for the first time find it revelatory and profound. Because it agrees with their a priori assumptions, it resonates to them as a brilliant piece of thinking.

Each new discovery of Blaise's Bet prompts the discoverer to employ it to convert all of us heathen atheists and agnostics to the true religion.

It's rather like teenagers discovering sex. They think no one else has done it before.

What?! You haven't heard of Pascal's Wager? You must be new to the argument. Pascal's Wager, Pascal thought that it would be safer to believe in rather than question God.

Well..what do they have to lose?

If they mention Pascal's wager 30 times a day, we'll all be drunk, and they can finally win an argument. So, they have nothing to lose...

Pascals wager relies on the perception that a individual can fool their God of selection. In different words, you do not ought to have confidence because of the fact of a truthful motivation, yet that perception in a supernatural entity "in basic terms in case" is totally appropriate. So, if I, an atheist, desperate that it would be in my ultimate pastime to attend church and profess an insincere perception in a god with the aid of "what if i'm incorrect" element, then the god of my selection will settle for me with open palms upon my earthly loss of life. In different words, Pascals wager assumes that any all-powerful author god is in all possibility the two too stupid or too self absorbed to know if his/her followers even particularly have confidence. as long as they bypass for the time of the dogmatic motions, then stated god is happy, the immortal soul is rewarded, blah, blah, blah... -SD-

Jesus never made a wager, but He did tell people how to get to heaven. In fact, He claimed to be the way to heaven:

"I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me." (John 14:6)

Jesus had a very interesting exchange with Nicodemus, one of the leaders of the Pharisees (the Jews' religious ruling group). In this conversation, Jesus told him that he had to be born again (which is where the term "born again Christian" comes from). He explained that being born again was accomplished by believing in Him:

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God." (John 3:16-21)

-The problem with Pascal's wager is that the assumption that belief in God is sufficient to get one into heaven is false. Demons believe and are condemned. An intellectual belief simply in God's existence is not sufficient for entry into heaven. One must agree with God and accept His terms for salvation. After all, heaven is a place where we voluntarily give up our "right" to sin, to spend eternity with the Holy One, who will turn us into perfect creatures because of our desires to be such on earth.

wow, and you are so smart posting this arrogant message. Just so you know, if it wasn't for the "stupid" Christians, there would be no blessing over your country you're living in. The only reason God is still letting this arrogance like yours live through is because there are people who want to live for Him, and so He gives us more time! And another thing, why don't you do a little bit more research on God before you make such a judgment that He doesn't exist! Life is short, eternity is forever... When you plan a vocation, do you do research on hotels and such? Where are you going to spend your eternity at? I don't think it would hurt to learn more about God before making such statements. Peace out!

I don't think it would help any to believe in God just in case he does exist. I think God expects more than that.
