My cat simon had surgery to find why she was loosing weight, kidneys started to fail in a very short time. I was trying everything from gaterade, anything for protien to put weight on. Looks like it was the cat food! She was my best friend! She did not have to die in an agony! I think someone needs to be responsible. I live in Arizona, and any help would be helpful.

It sounds like the surgery or antibiotics could have caused kidney failure. One brand of cat food was recalled, and it caused extrenely rapid death. You vet would not have been using it while Simon was in the office, and unless you used the specific brand in wet food, you will not qualify for the lawsuit.

If you did, you will have to prove that the cat dies as a direct result of the food, which can be determined through toxicology of the blood.
IF he did, then you will need reciepts or UPCs proving you purchased the poisoned food PRIOR to the recall death, from the bad batch.
IF you can provide these, you will need your vet's bills, plus a verification from him that the cat died of the poison, with a tox report and a signed statement that the surgery and subsequent antibiotics did not cause kidney failure.

As this would be extremely hard to prove, it will be very hard to get in on all that suing fun (sarcastic, as I am in a lawsuit for medical damages currently), in which a decision will not be made for a long time, and will not provide much monetary support to you anyways, and even that will not arrive for years. Companies hate lawsuits like this and will do anything to win or postpone payment. It would do you more good to write a heartfelt letter to the company, who have already issued a statement of exreme remorse and apology.

Antibiotics are more likely the cause, though. Cat had surgery after massive weight loss, then suffered kidney failure.
She likely had cancer or intestinal defect, right? Your vet would not have performed surgery for food taint, something else was going on here. Sounds like maybe *he* screwed up.

Sorry for the loss of a loved one.

I am sorry about your baby. But yes I have heard that the pet food company is willing to to give you money if your pet dies from the food. And the is someone sueing them for 250million dollars. I know that when you lose a pet it is like looseing a child I have lost a Yorkie that I reaised from 5 weeks old to 3 yrs. and that was a very very upsetting. Took many months to stop hearing him run thur the house. So I understand your pain but yes they are giving pet owners that have loss their pets from the food. I hope that you get justice for your kitty and all the other. They are not property they are you friends and people love their pets like they are children. GOOD LUCK!!!!!! Go to menufoods.com and see what you can find out there.

I saw on the news that there is one in Canada. Make sure you keep your vet reciepts. The problem that I have heard was that they consider pets as a thing and won't take into account pain and suffering they'll only look at vet bills and how much it will cost to replace the animal. I don't know how it works in the US so I hope its better for you there. I feel so sorry for your loss and wish you the best

There is a lady in Chicago who is suing over the death of her cat and her attorney hopes to make a class action suit out of it. I don't know her name but there should be some publicity on it, try surfing Chicago newspapers for a start. It was reported Tuesday.

I am so sorry. I feel the company should be held responsible. I heard that they consider pets as property so there is little that can be done. It seems like they should at least take care of vet bills and the cost of the pets at the very least. I hope you are able to find out something. You are in my prayers-R

They have a list of all the cereal numbers to look for on the cans from contaminated batches, if you have any cans save them for evidence, also get copy's of everything the vet did and found, I'm sure there will be a law suit, they have killed and damaged numerous innocent animals. Sorry you lost your kitty, I hope you find justice and make the b******s pay!!!

There are some, and I am sure there will be more. I doubt you will get millions but you will probably be able to get money from your vet bills back and maybe some in other damages. There is also a yahoo group linked below. So sorry about your loss! I know it is so tough to lose a pet (more like a kid)
