Your dog is not being overprotective she is being territorial, she is saying this is mine stay away.
Dogs are territorial animals. If you allow them to live in your home but fail to make it absolutely clear that you are the leader, they will take over the territory, protecting it against all comers, and will condescend to let you live there because you supply their food." Although an extreme view, it makes the point. Dogs that are overly dominant, both in absolute terms or with respect to their human family members, can provide a serious obstacle for canine and human visitors to their territory.
Treatment for dominance-related territorial aggression toward other dogs is best accomplished through strong leadership on the part of the owner (e.g. the owner should engage a leadership program) and they should employ effective physical methods of control.

Your dog is not acting in a way to protect you, rather to protect itself. The reason? Because your dog does not see you as it's leader. Therefore it does not believe that you are capable of protecting it. So it goes into a state of mind where a good defence is an aggressive offence.

The other problem that arises is when people have their dogs on leash and hold their dogs back when there are other dogs in the area. The mere act of holding a dog back makes the dog "look" aggressive to any approaching dog. This causes problems.

Find a good dog trainer, one who knows about the pack mentality. With a good trainer, you will discover that your dog is just fine and the two of you will be able to work things out.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU7kZ

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

I have no idea how old your dog is...but I would guess she is just over 2 years old. That is when they seem to start exhibiting jealous behavior. She is starting to exhibit jealous behavior because dogs are pack animals. YOU are the leader of the pack and she is trying to establish her place in the pack nearest you. So when you are out and another dog is around she wants to 'brawl' to establish her position as near you.

You'll find that female dogs show hostility toward other females a lot once they reach about 2 years to 3 years old...males show this hostility earlier unless they are neutered.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/trainingdog

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

It is probably because she was never around any other dogs growing up so she feels insecure about the other dogs even coming near to you.

No, its natural for her to do that but i recommend that you should be able to control her. My dog is like that too so i taught her not to go barking at people and dogs like charging at them. She just warn me when someone coming near the driveway.
