First of all, it's not really your tooth that can be resistant to antibiotics, it's your body. Usually patients undergo about 5-7 days of antibiotic treatment so the infection won't spread. Then they drain (cut open) your abscess to get all the pus out (it'll smell bad!) Then you'll get a root canal.

There are many antibiotics available on the market your dentist can prescribe. Even though strains of bacteria become resistant to antibiotics, there are always new products available. Just make sure you stick to your regiment.

The dentist needs to remove the tooth or the infection can keep spreading through your body. They should give you some antibiotics and as long as you take them properly and finish all of them you should get over the infection. If the infection is resistant then they will give you another, stronger antibiotic. You should not worry as long as you get the tooth out and take the antibiotics properly.

If your abscessed tooth is removed, all of it, including the apex (root of your tooth) the infection should be gone. If there are bits and pieces of the abscessed tooth fragments in your mouth, its best to have antiobiotics. If you are resistant to it, the doctor will need more information of what antiobiotics is suitable for your infection.
If you feel your doctor is incompetent in your dental care, I suggest you change dentists.

Don't freak with extractions, it will only make you worry for nothing.

There is a risk of infection but the risk is much smaller if you remove the tooth. If you leave the tooth the abscess can get into your blood stream and eventually kill you. Remove the tooth.
