The attractions of this world are sometimes more overwhelming than the will of most persons thus the elders found a way to attract the people towards spirituality using the forum of religion. over the years, the original concept had to be modified and this is where we are today.
basically the human being is filled with true love for all, It is the certain circumstances that made him change and use tact to any how increase the number of followers.
first thing is that, religion is not for teaching or controlling the individuals.!!! it is a guide for everyone of them to over come the doubts that arise as they progress in the field of spirituality. All that we see today is not the religion of the past.
we should concentrate more on developing oneself rather than teaching others. but discussion is necessary as it will enhance the knowledge of the individual.

In my opinion it depends on the people and some do and some don't. Common Sense is very important.I myself, do not think I need faith to be good since I adore Common Sense. However, I respect every religion in this world and someone up there is watching. Do not think he or she can get away of doing thing wrong. But, remember not every person use his or her common sense in this world.

faith is believing in something with out doubt. Religion is mans way to learn about a god or goddess. Religion is the base of right and wrong. you can teach someone that good is bad or bad is good. Religion gives hope and make use thank that their will be rewards or punishment for are doings. So it help make use good. With out Religion what base would we have to say what is right or wrong. We would have no way to compare are actions to know.

Yes, we need all the kind of knowledge we can get including that about religion if you want to be good. Some things by definition can't be learned from others but need to be learned by ones' self. I don't think common sense is all that common. I think we all know whats right and wrong- but people need to be reminded and sometimes religion does that. It reminds us of what we need to know in order to be good. However, some people don't consider the knowledge from religion valuable- so THEY don't need religion.

Religion actually is one way that we teach each other to be good. Religions are institutions created by man and maintained by man. There are sources that serve as the basis for religions, but the religions are man-made. That's not to say that they are not valid, or good sources of faith and life lessons themselves. Going to church (the right church) gives one the chance to hear a good word, to learn about hope, and to be loved.

Is not committing date rape common sense? Then I think we need religion to teach the difference between right and wrong because this one happens way way way too often.

We need religion, because not everyone will be just good. And the world won't just give up religion. Let me tell you an example:
Pope John Paul II was about to enter a seminary in Baltimore. Before he went in, the CIA send in sniffer dogs in to check for intruders. The dogs came to the tabernacle, where the hosts are kept, and started barking. They sensed someone was in the tabernacle, and that someone was the soul of Jesus Christ.

You would think so wouldn't you. Apparently it's not that easy. Apparently there are way too many people who because they lack true faith in Jesus Christ. They commit crimes. They kill. They steal. They rationalize that because (in their minds) there is no God they do not have to worry about punishment.
Apparently we do need God and we do need faith.
How many times has faith in God turned a person around to become a good upstanding citizen? How many times has losing faith done the same thing? How many times has losing faith turned a person into criminal, a social liability?

Yes! Where do you think that common sense came from? I've said this before, and I'll say it again...Human beings need a higher power to reign over them...they need that little seed planted in their mind that tells them that if they do good or bad in this life, then they have an eternal reward or punishment waiting for them in the next. Otherwise, we would all just do whatever we pleased....who cares...we would have no one to answer to....

I, as a Christian, believe that we have an inherent sense of right and wrong, so do we need faith to be good most of the time? I think you answered that for yourself...
BUT as soon as we realize that we are not perfect, that we have our own self-destructive habits, and that we will face judgement at the end of time, it becomes obvious that we need remission of sins.
