Hi Valerie
I erupted in Psoriasis at the young age of 16 and first sign of Arthritis at 21. I am now 48, still have it. What has worked for me, evening primrose oil. Started it in March 1998 and have never been back to Hospital since. I am NOT what you call a 'snake oil salesperson' was told about this by a Rheumatologist and now have it prescribed FREE by my Physician/GP. Initially I did not notice anything, was too busy moving house, but the first person who noticed a difference was the man who came to instal this here PC. I knew him as he serviced the PCs at College, so he was in and out many times. It was only when he landed in my home and said 'I do not know what they have you on, but you look so different' that I sat back and thought 'A compliment, was that a date?' In fact I sat down and suddenly realised how good I felt and the fact that by NOW I should be back in Hospital, but I was not? Obviously I take a anti-inflammatory once a day and for the skin I used Dovobet and the blue tube. Red cream for two weeks and then blue tube everyday, red tube at weekends, that has really impressed me over the last year. However I am peri menopausal, so the hormones have some influence.
Likewise I attended Pilates and am Aqua Jogging, lost weight, turned the middle age bulge into muscle and feel fitter than ever before.
My diet is low fat and I do have a positive mental attitude.
Hope that helps?

Make an appointment to see a consultant, they can prescribe you a drug called salphasalazine that works.
